A better mouse trap built....

Post by speedtrapped » Tue Dec 06, 2011 10:20 pm

So as many of you know, Audi did not score any points when they designed the MAF seals on our cars, IMO. They are very expensive stateside, $80/per side, and everytime you get the CF airbox off, or another version CAI the rubber seals die a slow death.
I had ordered some stiff trans mounts from a company called Apikol, based in Colorado...WEll they just developed, and will be selling new, poly based materialw/ aluminum ring MAF seals for $38 a piece. I just placed mine in, they are snug(have to use lube to get them in, light rubber mallet and seated) Then when installing the housing, use a little hand sanitizer, works like a charm. The rings are thicker, pliable and dont wear away.

Google Apikol USA, they are based in Colorado. Ask for Doug or Brendon. They only make 1 type of MAF seal so a part number not necessary. I am also commuting home, so can't look up # for you.
If u run into issues, let me know or I can post a number up tonight.

That sounds good, someone should've done this earlier.

Maybe we get a decent batch shipped over to Europe?

We'll get them shipped to Amar in Vegas and he can sneak them back through customs for us after Christmas.

If they ask him in customs he can just say that they are cock rings for his donkey. They won't question that, coming from Vegas and all.

You can make a ring out on the intake, partially obscured by my sock.

UPDATE......So I decided to take a look at the MAF seals my mechanic installed, in additon to other work. well I am not flaming a vendor, because Doug was nice enough to give me a set free. when I was removing my maf housing I notice the seal was 1/2 popped out, upon lifting on the housing the seal stuck to the housing and slipped right out. I pulled it off and inspected it as i had not had it in my hand prior. They are squishy, there is no metal ring in them. I placed on in the inlet and it slid right in, but it pulls right out..bummer.
so i decided to attempt something, as the material will never wear llike the rubber. i cleaned the inlet lip, and cleaned the seal. I took 4 drops of super glue and carefully placed the seal back in, bingo..not budging.
now for the good news, the seals thickness is beefy, as I have been testing logs between stock box and DBR CAI it took some hard pushing down to get them in, with stock box the mafs are tight as t..., well u know. Actually 1st time I did it, I did not have maf driver side all the way in, started it and stuttere stall. after realizing i had NOT had driver side seated all the way in, pushed hard the maf seated, they do NOT budge.
I am going to keep them.....

I've been lurking those rings for a while (just the rings). Shipping price to Europe is ridiculously high : $42 with the cheapest option, almost the price for the goods. :!:
