Audi S8 D11 Block - Is it suitable?

Gents,

Firstly hi to you all!

I would like to ask if the Audi S8 D11 block is suitable to be used in place of the Audi RS6 block?

The reason i ask is I am converting my car to manual (its an RS6) and was rebuilding the engine and if possible to use this blocks and retain all the factory bolts on parts and heads etc it would be a better way than using spacer plates!

Thanks in advance and interested in your opinions also!

Ciao

Why use the S8 D2 block? Is the crankcase the same? I know the bore, stroke and sroke ratio are similar but compression ratio differs (natch). Do they even share the same crossplane? What about all of the roller kit and oil pump set ups? Also, I know I've read somewhere that the BCY and BRV blocks were cast differently from all other Audi V8s, I'm sure this is for a reason.
It seems odd to bin the RS6 block, you must be doing something special, let us in on the why and the how?

I am not hell bent on the S8 D2 block but rather any block that is a direct swap for the RS6 block. I understand that the RS6 block has a different casting/webbing but other tuners have succesfully use 4.2 blocks even with the standard internals with great results.

I am after a block that will work as a direct replacement for the RS6 excluding the transmission ofcourse as i will be using an 01E or better.

Sorry that can't help with your question, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who would love to see lots of pictures of this project once you get started :D

There are a couple of kits out there that allow you to bolt up a 01E to BCY (RS6 4.2 block). Some of these kits even come with matching starter motors. It'd save you a load of time, ne? Then your only hurdle is the ECU but that's been tackled already, I'm sure you could buy the flash file from someone.

All that's left is:
1. Free-flow manifolds/extractors
2. Lower the compression
3. Strap on some GTs
4. Other supporting mods and pipework
5. ???
6. Profit

Probably cheaper to buy a charged B7.

As much as I hate to agree with bookfather, I can't help thinking that buying a car that is already a manual and making it quick is a more sensible option.

Or a C6? Some people have a soft spot for the C5, Amanda could easily have bought a C6 and had enough change to buy a nice C5.

Edit: just realised the guy wants a manual and the C6 isn't, doh.

Go and sit in the corner Amar, come back when you've learned to pay attention in class.

Guys,

Thanks for all the posts and yes there are cheaper ways but cars and common sense sometimes dont go together when it comes to performance etc.

I have managed to find a supplier who can get me a brand new S6 block complete with rotating assembly which will be a direct swap in/out and allow the 01E to bolt up without any special mods etc!

Can some one please confirm or correct my info regarding the CR of the engines from the 4B 4.2 A6 variants? My info tells me the following:

RS6 Engine = 9.3:1
S6 Engine = 11.0:1
A6 Engine = ??? I would appreciate this informaiton.

Thanks in advance!!

RS6 = 9.5:1
S6 = 11.0:1
A6 4.2 = 11.0:1

IIRC the manual MTM clubsport was a turbo'd S6, neatly sidestepping the ECU issue.

Some might (and did) say that it isn't a real RS6 with an S6 lump.

Cheers for the CR info!

If I use the A6/S6 bottom end it would make for a nice performer 11:1, loba LO700 Turbos, Ported heads, Manual Gearbox, Upgraded Intercoolers, Twin 3" exhaust and fuel system while being tuned on E85 should see 800+bhp!!

Cheers again guys!

You should be aiming for 1000bhp. This is the minimum for earning our respect :P

Keep us updated anyway. Sounds like an interesting project.
