So, anyone had a sideways moment in thier beast? I had one yesterday chasing a fezza on an island. Not had any of my audi's sideways in the dry before and can only put it down to the pzero tyres which i can't wait to change with goodyear f1's that i have always run on every car i have owned.
Bloody kurbed an alloy yesterday doing 2mph which really p1ssed me off The wife was mega angry but also happy that it was me that has damaged them before her!

The thought of getting one of these heavy V8 quattro monsters sideways in the bone dry scares the <beep> out of tbh! In the snow in winter with plenty of room to play, yes, maybe, but in the dry at speed I'd just be scared the traction control would cut all the power and not let you power out the slide.....

Never had it sideways by accident really. But wet roads, ESP off and 1st or 2nd gear tip mode + tight corners can be quite fun

Not 10 minutes ago I powered away sideways from a junction, such fun. And impressive for a big car like this.

Been sideways twice now, the first time was my fault as I was being a bit of a knob and not paying attention, the second time was out of necessity!
I was driving to get on the m25 at redhill on the roundabout, some delightful chap decided he had missed his turning and drove across me from the inside lane. I was "advising him" on his poor driving from the side window when I noticed I was a little wayward getting on to the motorway entrance slup road and heading straight for the knuckle of the crash barrier to the right of the exit. A bit of evasive required and ended up drifting sideways, a bit of right foot and felt like I have over corrected - in one if my previous rear wheel drive I would have probably spun out the other way (clockwise) but amazed the way the four wheel drive pulled the car - autographed the gusset of my pants but the 6 just dealt with it.
Second time was on a tight A road when an astra came around the corner well over the central line and I was in the car with the mrs. Put it on hard lock to avoid loosing my wingmirror (and probably front quarter) and would have been fine but front left (was turning in left) caught a pothole. Now my suspension -kw v3 - is stupid hard but actually bounced the car in to a slide - luckily enough the road was clear and again the car did it's thing and a second later we were back to normal.. Well apart from the mrs almost popping my ear drum with her scream.

In all seriousness I feel after a year of ownership I am only just scratching the surface of what this car can do. I need the c6 brake upgrade as feel oem c5 struggle but for such a big heavy car it continues to amaze me. I was driving on some back roads the other day and had whatever the top spec seat Leon (cupra or cupra r) in front of me. To be fair his entry speed to corners was much better than mine but that's just physics - I was quicker on the power and in a straight line it was a no contest.
I have no competitive driving experience and would describe myself as competent but nothing more, I just feel that now I am getting more confidence that the gearbox is fixed (for now) the 6 just keeps getting better and surprising me more!

Properly broadsided it 3 times. 2 in the wet and 1 in the snow (summer tyres). All with the TC off.
I drove around most of last winter with the TC off, it drove me insane otherwise. The quattro is ahhh-mazing if you stay committed and keep the power smooth and the revs away from anything going into higher boost. It is a massive amount of inertia though, just keep your head and don't lift off.

Oh well, might not be the tyres then as others have done it. Now in two minds what to do with the tyres, wanted them changed before xmas but now thinking i should wait till after i get them re-furbed again when the toss weather has been and gone.

That's it, isn't it, whatever you do, don't lift off mid slide, keep your foot in to power the fronts. TC killing all the power could actually put you in more of a mess?

I've never managed to get the car to as much as shimmy with TC on. Even with TC off it's very stable.

In the snow last December I managed a few moderate drifts at low speed with the ESP still on, although I guess if you have all four wheels slipping at the same speed the ESP cannot sense you are going sideways

Yeah that's very true. Once all that weight starts to move in a particular direction it will keep going for some time. Especiually in the snow I noticed I had to leave plenty of room for the car to slide, it doesn't just when you want to end the slide.

Have started to go a number of times in the snow but the worst was yesterday...went sideways (and nearly brown trousered) yesterday coming back from Wales....was driving down a Welsh B road in filthy weather last night and went through some serious unseen surface water..acquaplaned in unfortunate style. No harm done however and when I read daveperc's post re his car and the Welsh weather yesterday, I did think "there but for the grace of god" type of thoughts...

It's ESP not just TC, so much more sophisticated, and doubtless it's miles better at rescuing a slide than most of us.
