no fault code in VCDS well at least when doing a full auto scan

Did you check the measurement blocks?

I tried to access headlight range module and I am getting a no communication with controller??

looks like my issue is a little more than just the headlights, I cant connect to any other controllers apart from engine, auto trans, abs and air bags. Will start another thread

Sounds like you’ve got a CAN issue.

exactly that, when testing in options of VCDS I am seeing k high/low but no can, any suggestions where to look?

You won’t get VCDS to communicate over CAN with the RS6 IIRC. So that’s a red herring.

I would start by unplugging various modules that aren’t communicating. Most likely one of them has fallen over it’s taking the whole network down.

I would start with the central convenience module under the carpet. See if it’s wet.

done, the central convenience module under the carpet is unplugged no water ingress at all perfectly dry with no indication of it ever being wet. waiting for the laptop to chrage so I can check for faults again. suggestions on what to disconnect next?

still cant connect to anything on that can bus except "instruments", I have disconnected the radio now as well as the convience module.
