Changing leather colour...
Changing leather colour...
There's some wear on the bolster of the drivers seat which I've been meaning to have looked at since I got the car (but have been buried under the usual RS6 gremlins until now). My saloon is Muggy Blue, and it has cream seats with black piping. I'm thinking of having them recoloured to black, or a charcoal colour. Has anyone here had this sort of work done before? I'm wondering how succesful it usually is.
Also, if anyone has any thoughts on alternative colours I'm open to (sensible) suggestions - I've seen the mauve interiored C6 that looks like you're stepping inside a vajimjam and don't fancy it!

Re: Changing leather colour...
Black is the sensible choice. Might be cheaper to source a whole interior from someone breaking a car...

Re: Changing leather colour...
I thought about nabbing an interior from a breaker - any idea what sort of price they go for? Obviously it'd need to be from an RS6 due to the embossed logo, so I suppose it's not exactly a buyers' market. There's a place recommended on Pistonheads that's close to me so I'll get a quote from them when I get home. If I have mine recoloured the advantage is that it'll be treated and fresh as a daisy, while a used interior might need further freshening up - it'll all have to depend on how the pennies work out I suppose.
Re: Changing leather colour...
How bad is your interior? You might be surprised what good results you can get if you do it yourself. Gliptone do some pretty good leather restoration stuff. Lots of info on their site:

Re: Changing leather colour...
It's actually really good, it's just the one area on the drivers bolster that lets the side down - it looks like the seatbelt has been catching it. I've tried sorting ti with Gliptone's cleaner and conditioner, and while it's improved it a bit it's far from gone. The local place quotes £50 for bolster repairs, but I've always prefered darker leather interiors anyway, so I'm thinking it might be worth doing it all in one go.

Black with white piping always looks good and would blend well if you have white inserts on the doors.

Re: Changing leather colour...
If it's only the bolsters that are poor (and I know what you mean, mine was the same), then perhaps you could get those recoloured only, and create a two tone effect, like this:

Re: Changing leather colour...
The two tone idea had crossed my mind actually - I was bit worried it might look too 'Essex', but that rather snazzy rendering (did you do it yourself?) looks ok. I guess I could always trial it, and if i don't like it have the rest of the seat recoloured at a later date - I worry the back seats might look too busy with the stripes, but I suppose the best way to find out is to try it!
Re: Changing leather colour...
It's actually a picture of a Volvo interior! I searched for two tone interior on Google Images and that was the one closest to what I was thinking of.
Re: Changing leather colour...
Doh - it seems so obvious now you mention it!

Re: Changing leather colour...
I think I would personally go down the repair route. I'm sure a good trimmer could replace the bolster panel with some new leather and colour-match almost perfectly?
Maybe it could be tricky with all the electric gubbins in the seat, and side airbags though?

I tend to agree with Chris. Not too hard to get the seat out, airbags or no.

Here's your black interior.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AUDI-RS6-2002-BRA ... 3f0bc01755
Criminal its being broken up though. I expect we'll see a few more that get written off as the gearbox goes kaput, and with RS6 values not much more than 10k

That's sad. Still, the less there are, the more mine is worth

Re: Changing leather colour...
Email sent... Out of interest, what do folks think the interior would be worth? I've not seen any sold on Ebay before so I have no real ballpark price for it.
