Ticking noise when cold

Hi all,

Ive got a ticking noise this morning with cold engine.
At disappeared when the engine was warm. ive heard it can be the N80, fuel return selonoid etc.
Anyonbe got an idea. i went to a Audi stealer and the mechanic said his son has a s4 with the same ticking (althought he didnt hear it because the engine was warm when i got there, no errors with Vagcom except the 16985 one..) he changed the oil with a more quality one and it was much less. i use 505001 5w30 recommended by Audi (they also did the oilchange) but ive read stories on this forum its better to use 5w40...
Could it be because of the use of 5w30 the oil is more likely to drip of parts when cooling down then 5w40...so it takes longer to get the oil pumped through the engine? it was changed 3000 km ago....

No update/solution on my ecu 16985 problem yet...

It tells you in the handbook that the engine might rattle / tick when started from cold, it's the hydraulic tappets.

Half-way down the left hand side of this photo there is a black valve, that could be the cause of the ticking. Touch it you will feel it clicking. It's Normal.

Because you've made it through the RS6 honey-moon period and now you're in the paranoia period. Your ears are now directly attached to your wallet and capable of picking up subsonic noises that usually turn dogs inside out.

Just this weekend gone while topping up the screen wash while the engine was running from cold i also for the first time noticed the ticking sound coming from the black valve so i called out Audi Assistance who advised it was quite normal. He did explain it was something to do with the fuel being sent and recieved...He did explain in some detail as to why it was ticking but it was a bit technical for me...Rest assured quite normal. :D

i think the black valve complains about the amount of fuel that passes and probably comes from a Deawoo Matiz... :D
This morning the ticking noise was gone, but im still getting new oil in it, 5w40 instead of 5w30... :audibash:
Thanks for the input Malcolmx. :beerchug:
