TCU remap

Post by mavada » Sun May 01, 2011 11:12 am

Hi all,

Ive mentioned my ecu problem before and its going to be reflashed/chipped (i hope by ABT, i think they chipped it and i will suggest they do the reflash costless because it appears to be their fault...i didnt have a answer yet) so i would like to have my TCU remapped too. ive heard good stories about MTM. is that just a standard remap or do they have them in different stages? Is it ECU chipped dependent? Is it best to have the TCU remapped first before chipping my ECU? ive heard its about 100 euros ex shipping...
Whats does the remap exactly do, ive heard it locks up the clutch sooner so theres less slipping etc. does it have a non rev limiter?
Also id like to know where the TCU is located, i know its at the passenger seat area, but has somebody got pics of the location, cos Elsawin hasnt...

There is only 1 gearbox remap from MTM, there are no stages.
I still have doubts a simple reflash will solve it, but lets see.
125$ + shipping from Hoppen Motorsports in the USA, you need to specify that you need a EURO chip and you will need someone local to solder it in (unless you ship the whole TCU which is not very cost effective and takes time)
From what I've heard the TC locks up sooner and does not unlock as easily in tip mode.
I've read "passenger side" on these boards but with RDH the passenger side is on the other...so maybe it's under the carpet on the drivers' side for LHD. Shouldnt be hard to check.

Mavada's is LHD. It's under the carpet in front of the passenger seat. you need to remove the footwell kick panel trim just in front of the door and push the carpet back out of the way. You'll see the water proof box that the TCU lives in. YOu'll need a short crosshead screwdriver to get the 4 screws out.

It's not difficult, just a pain working with the weight of the carpet pushing back on you.

I understood from the US forum that the MTM TCU remap for US spec will not work on our EU spec 6-es.
Why was not completely clear to me, but I think to remember that Hoppen asks for the VIN number and it can only works for a specific range of VIN id's?!?

I have a MTM TCU and it works just fine. The US versions have one chip and the EU versions have another. This is why they ask for the VIN.

:bash: This is always so darn funny.
Just read this Interesting thread on RS6.com.

And I quote a post, posted Jan 23. 2011:
".......
Reply from Mike @ Hoppen:

Hello,

The MTM TCU software applies as follows;

2003 US RS6 (4B0 927 156 FL) software code BFLVOLL1.001
2003 EU RS6 (4B0 927 156 FB) software code BFBVOLL2.002
2004 EU RS6 Plus (??) no software upgrade available as the factory already addressed this.

The 156FL and 156FB software cannot be interchanged.

I hope this information answers some of the questions.

Best Regards,
Mike Hoppen
........."

That is the reason why I thought it was not possible to use a Hoppen MTM TCU chip in the EU spec cars.
But who am I ...... Just a simple Dutchie...........

I must be missing something. Your quote says it will work? By the way, my TCU was done by hoppen.

Hmmm I think I must been translating it differently then:

I guess I will go back to the silent mode and only read the topic as you will definitely know better than me as you have the hoppen remap and I only relay a opinion of a few members from a different forum

Correct but you can order either one from Hoppen. He even mentions the part numbers of the chips, he can supply both.
