RS6 Tyre Fitment (please contribute)

Not all 255 35 19 fit. Some rub on the suspension parts causing catatrophic failure. Please add your experience below.

15. GOOD FIT : Vred Ultrac Sessanta 255/35/19 Rupert - 40-44psi depending on load.

What is pic 3? Looks like Dunlop SP Sport 9000 (which were the original fit on my car). They did wear on the inside edge, but I had two sets of them which averaged 18k miles/set, so I don't think knobbly was to blame.

Here is my second set of dunlops with 16k miles. The tracking was out.

Only posting this so that people don't confuse bad geometry with knobbly wear.

Is this front, rear or both.....does lowering make it worse?

Just front. I have never heard of a clearance problem at the rear.

Lowering makes no difference because the part that the tyre rubs on is fixed in relation to the wheel, not the suspension.

However, I think it's worth restating what has already been said in another thread:
Daveperc wrote:I don't think the type of suspension, or the state of it should make any difference. The geometry between "Ol Knobbly" and the centre of the wheel is fixed. Admittedly wheel bearing play would in theory make a difference, but there would need to be a lot of play (ie a completely knackered bearing) for it to move that much.

Looks to me more likely is a tyre pressure issue on the Vred's - I keep mine at 38 and they have been fine - but lower pressure and vigourous cornering would cause intermittent fouling which would wear it away gradually without being that obvious.
grizz wrote:I've seen lots of cars with the tyre worn on the edge like this , the alloy of the up right is still covered in muck so it's not rubbed ..but the lower arms have play in the bushes.
This will cause the steering angle to go out when cornering ..

Pic 3, looks like mine... But obviously not!

Mine did exactly the same however

Edit. It is mine

http://www.rs246.com/index.php?name=PNp ... highlight=

But it appears Daniel did have the same problem.

Could have well been geometry!

21. GOOD FIT: KUMHO ECSTA SPORT KU 31 - 255/35R19 96Y XL TL

Went for the Kumho's on a punt from PZeros. Were a shade over £530 a set after looking hard. Glad I did so far. Quieter and good performance wet and dry. Matched with PSS9's and lowered one inch, ride is good. Caveat is that I have not really pushed the tyres too hard, and they have only seen <1000 mile.

Edit: and WIM geo a must.
