The time has come to change my front pads and was after a little advise. How do I get the pins out? They seem to be in solid.

There are loads of threads on here but none that explain how to remove the pins.

You just need a punch thats slightly smaller in diameter than the pins
then gently knock the pins out. you may have to hold the plate thats
between the pads down away from the pin

And they only go out one way! I bought the kit from Audi that contains the pins. Rip off.

I'd make sure I have a set of new pins before I start taking out the old ones as they some times require a beating to remove them and if one is seized in there you may have to cut it to remove it.

I bought a set of front and rear Mintex pads from Sutton Auto factors for £65.73 inc vat and delivery for both.

Not sure what they're like but Mintex is a pretty good brand and at that price if they're crap I can chuck them and not be too put out.

I bought a set of Mintex pads also. Got the kit from Audi today, yes a complete rip off at £40 for a full set. Anyway I've had a nightmare of time. managed to change one set of pads after about two and half hours hammering away at the pins, I don't beleive Audi changed them when they last changed the pads. The pins were very rusty and when I got around to the other side of the car could see that the end of the pins were flat so had been removed at least once before. So at the moment I have new pads on one side and very tired pads on the other side. Fun times. I'm heading up to a place I've used previously to help with the side that needs changing. Up on the ramp they should have no problems get the pins out..... I hope.

Put a small amount of copper grease on the pins, it should help with removal the next time.

Yes good point copper grease the new pins.

Sometimes (if you have new pins to replace the old ones) its easier to cut the old pins in half then get hold of them with a pair of mole grips or similar and twist them to get them moving, its a hell of a lot easier than just trying to beat them out.

A liberal wetting with WD40 helps too especially of you can leave it to soak a while.
