Stealer warranty

Post by mrmule » Thu Jan 27, 2011 6:36 pm

Called up the local dealer today about something and they offered me a named component warranty with a £250 excess for £1460 per annum. My car has been out of audi warranty for years. I thought you couldn't renew it once it had been out of warranty?

Really? I don't think it'll actually be an Audi warranty at this point in your car's history. It might be underwritten by Lloyd's or Mondial etc.
OR this could be Audi realising that no one has gone for their price hike from £1,800 to £2,600 IIRC.

Hi my 6' had 12 months on it when i bought it from an audi dealer and this was with car care plan and have just gone about renewing it and again it's with car care plan, only thing is they wanted to try and charge me 99 quid to get the car inspected for the warranty company. After politely telling them to screw there 99quid as the car has only ever gone back to them for any work they know exactly the condition of the car so eventually they waivered it, but he did mention that any car can be put back under warranty aslong as it is inspected, not sure how mods figure into this statement tho. Not sure if any dealer puts there own warranty on a car except from new any more (might be wrong but never heard it) Cheers Sean

+ 1.... if your car is standard.

I had some issues with Camberley Audi recently. They would have replaced my gearbox under the named comp warranty but they believed the TCU was modified and wanted to do a load of firmware tests. They also warned that the dud 'box would be inspected upon arrival back in the Motherland, if found to be modified, I would have to pay for everything.

OK. Lots of thought on this so far.

First of all, why is a warranty from Audi any better than anyone else? Presumably they will still want to wiggle out of any claim, plus do their damnedest to find something to charge you for aside from the warranty work. Whereas I hear mainly nothing but good things from the likes of Warranty Direct with their comp cover policy for half the price.

Yes there is an all component cover which goes above 3k with no excess, but is closer to 2k with a 250 excess. Doesnt make sense to me but hey ho.

No inspection required apparently, they just wont accept any claims within 4 weeks IIRC to allow for any existing fatal fault to wreak havoc and completely break whatever its going to break.

I'll request more details, but bam bams point is the most important. Most of us are running modified motors, so we'll have to see how friendly they are to that. Again, Warranty Direct doent seem to care what your mods are, so long as you declare them...

My biggest thing though is: Why is an Audi warranty necessarily so much beter???

I believe Inchcape who I had cover with for my previous 6 is underwitten by Car Care Plan. Were they an Inchcape dealership?

Camberley are pants as they are too jobs worth and do everything by the book.

There are better workshops out there who are prepared to "accomodate" your needs...

Safest bet is to demod before you take it in. Pita, but guranteed to get results ;)
