Is it really worth scrimping on the things that stop you hitting stuff?

C6 discs and calipers are the way forward. The only thing you should try and on the cheap with an RS6 is insurance.........
It's all Bollox.

I thought the C6 calipers were only 6 pot as opposed to the C5 which are 8 pot ?

Why would less pistons produce more braking efficiency ?

Leverage. Bigger disc requires less clamping force, besides, the pads are able to be longer and have more counter-directional surface area i.e. The further from the hub the less braking force required.
There are other benefits such as heat dissipation but there are a few drawbacks too, additional unsprung mass and inertia... Errrm, cost too.
No matter where you go, there you are.

AFAIK there are no cheap alternatives for front discs, though there are a number of upgrade routes including the C6 option or Movit.

Phaeton discs are an option for the rears, but are heavier.

There are a few dealers who sometimes have offers on eBay - I think the dealer was/is DSVWagen or something similar - it's the VW dealer in Doncaster. Grizz (and MRC) are always competitive.

Oh, and +3 re never scrimping or taking risks on brakes!

Did you get the C6 set up on the barge before it departed Mooch and if so what did it feel like compared to the Phaeton set up?

I'll be looking at upgrading the brakes once the present set of disks expire.

They are rather good aren't they? I like the feeling that you don't just have a "powerful-go-faster-loud-spleen-ripping" pedal but you've also got a "squeeze-your-brain-out-of-your-nose" pedel to match it...
It makes my girlfriend's breasts look better under heavy braking too.
