While changing oil and filter in my Audi garage, i saw a drop of oil below the last part of the gearbox (towards the rear of the car, the part that is closest to the driveshaft). The garage said to replace the gasket, he needed to dismantel the driveshaft and maybe the exhaust. Is this a common problem ? (sign of the gearbox is getting close to replace?)

I dont know how long it is leaking already, and he cant see the oil level of it... Ive seen a small area of oil in my garage at home, but again, i dont know for how long it is leaking.
Next friday they replace my F125 switch (from which they say the entire engine has to come out... but this seems to me a little bit overdone...ive seen on this site a way to replace it but there they speak of an A8 Audi. is this way of replacement the same as an RS6?), maybe they can replace the gasket also...

I had the gearbox prop seal replaced at my last service with MRC due to it weeping. They charged an hours labour, but this was on top of quite a lot of other work so not sure of the actual number of hours required... Probably worth getting it checked/sorted along with a gearbox service to make sure your trans fluid levels are where they should be.

Hi Mav it's the Rear flange Seal been told it is a common prob when i asked the same question a few months back as mine was weeping too. Yes it is right they have to remove exhaust as the drive shaft is directly above it.This is how i found out mine was leaking as the oil was getting on the exhaust and smelling, they only have to drop one end of the shaft to be able to slide the rear flange shaft seal from the box. When i spoke to Grizz (martin unit 20) he had seals and these can be changed alone but as i couldn't get it to Grizz i had to go down the dealer route which is a pain in the ass as Audi have redsigned the seal to sit into a diffrent flange so i had to buy the whole thing which is on back order of a few months and alot more expensive compared to just a seal. £412 to be exact but hey it needed doing. Hope this helps and i don't think your box is giving up the ghost (hopefully). Cheers Sean.
