Winter tyres

Anyone recommend any particular winter tyres , might get a spare set to give extra security as there does appear to be a huge difference in grip etc once the temperatures drop , reading some of the magazine articles around recently

Take a look at the posts from this time last year - there was lot's of debate. I seem to remember the Vred Wintrac were highly rated for general use.

4WD only helps you start - it's always stopping the beast that's a challenge - and that's why you may need the extra grip, even in Surrey!

New to RS6 ownership, and winter tyres were on my list of questions too. I hope to be taking the car skiing - Scotland and abroad, so winter tyres will be very useful. I'll keep an eye on this thread, but could you let me know if you get any useful info?

I'd strongly recommend leaving the car at the bottom of the lift!! Unless you are trying to re-create a James Bond moment!!

I bought a set of OEM 18" winter alloys last year from Germany and fitted the 225 45 18s Vredestein and it was impressed. You don't need winter tyres in the same way you don't need 450+ BHP It just helps to have them!

used vredestein wintracs 255/35/19 last year and the difference was very noticeable.

But as previous reply has already said - it is all about the stopping when you car weighs over two tonnes.

I have thes on my RS4 and were great in the snow last year actualy too good passed most 4x4's on the road but the as has been said it remembering the stopping distance it the trick Verd's get my vote

Lucky you, cheapest in that size we have around here is 312 gbp for contis.

Down to 18 inch 245/40 it drops to 150.

ok not cheap but they will last 4-5 years if you change them out after winter

i've just had a set of winter tyres fitted.
i went for the dunlop winter sport 3d's, as they are audi fitment with R01 on the label.
they're 225/45 x 18's and they're on 8 x 18 9-spoke A4 s-line wheels.
they look very knobbly and weedy-thin compared to the 255/35 x 19's
and the car handles like a bag-of-sh!te in comparison..!!
just hoping for another severe winter...........
i paid 799 gbp fitted from mytyres - i couldn't find anyone with stock of the vred's until next year (unless you buy directly from germany)
