Should I let Audi put 5w30 507.00 oil in?

As per title. Time to change the oil and the need to have the audi stamp in the book brings me into conflict with Audi again. They only have 507.00 oil and insist it's the right one for my car. My manual says 505.01 5w40 (which is an oil specially developped for PD diesel engines).
Arghhhh. Where can I get a definitive yes or no to whether 507.00 can replace 505.01?
Anyone had oil changed recently? If so what did you put in?
PS. Last service they put 507.00 in. I haven't noticed any odd effects, but then you wouldn't until it was too late, I suppose.

I would suggest having them provide you with the documents to support their claim.

Does no one else have their 6 serviced at Audi? What are they putting in yours?

I put in 5w 40 (shell helix ultra) as it is the closest I could find to the specs in the manual. I would buy this yourself and give it to Audi for the service if you're worried - assuming they won't object.

I'm surprised they take 5w 40....I havent really given this any thought. I just assumed they would take 0w Fully Synthetic....perhaps this is too thin.

Oil has made significant advances over the last 10 years, but there's wisdom in sticking to the manual unless informed otherwise by an expert.

Audi's exact words were "you wouldn't go to a restaurant and take your own food would you?".
Nuff said.

True but you can take a bottle if they do not have a drinks licence and I doubt Audi do..

They really said that? Wow! Rebuttals on a postcard please...
How about: "I'm the customer, its my money, now do what I ask or go f..k yourself!"

Sadly, they really did say that. And I was being polite at that stage, too. Asking nicely.
My actual response was "I would if the food was <beep>", and it didn't go down terribly well.

5w-40 only and they should be trying to sell you "special plus" which was only for the rs 6.its available from tps or audi only in litre containers. When I worked for stockport audi its the only oil we put in them.
