inserts...which is best

Post by Welky » Mon Sep 06, 2010 2:56 pm

I was told my wood inserts/trim is a bit 'pipe 'n slippers' yesterday which I've always suspected, but has left me devastated nonetheless. So, which of the following is best, and how much/where to buy from? (searches revealed little).

Piano Black
Carbon Fibre
Aluminum
Gold plated

Photos valued of course.
C5 RS6 Avant. Muggle Blue, Black leather, PSS9s, Hotchkiss ARBs, Grizz's BIG brake kit, Phaeton cooling ducts.

First advice - "get a life"!! If that's left you devasted there is clearly something missing!!

Next try a 'pipe 'n slippers' - you might find that you like it!!

Only then start modding the car - though it is clearly established that Carbon Fibre is the only way to go!! There are two options - either replace with full trim, which is expensive if done with all new parts, or else there are several vinyl wrap options which if done carefully are almost indistinguishable from the original. Do a search on these forums as there have been a number of posts in the last year.

Thanks Brooner, spot on. Anyone got a piano black pic?

Daveperc; surely you get sarcasm..."get a life!" - bit strong isn't it? That aside, I've seen the posts on carbon wrap and looks a little cheap to be honest. I'm with you on the carbon though - my fav at the moment.

I had wood in my first rs6 and felt the same as you. I have black in my a4 and carbon in my new rs6 and carbon wins hands down. It's timeless.

Piano for me... Don't understand having carbon if it's not actually carbon? It does look good though.

As in for the weight saving... These are just wrapped for the 'look' of carbon fibre.

Cracked Bolsters! Ooh yes, very painful. My wife cracks my bolsters after every visit to the workshop. You can get ointment to aid the dry discomfort but I fear this is only a band-aid fix. Long term you will need a new pair, so perhaps a bolster transplant. Cheaper than replacing the wife.

I'm bias toward Brushed Alu but I think Piano Black would be super sweet, carbon (wet carbon looks dated IMO) is a close third and wood is trailing a long long way behind.
