Apologies if this has already been covered, but as a new owner, I have a couple of questions about the Sat-Nav plus fitted in my RS6.

I tried (and failed ) over the weekend to set my sat-nav to find a postcode beginning OX26_[blank, blank, blank]

It gave me the option of going to OX2_6[blank, blank] but OX26_[blank, blank, blank] didn't seem to exist.

I thought I could omit the postcode and just use the town and street name to find my destination...

I knew the town name, and street name which I entered into the guidance setup (the system recognised both), but then it went back to the postcode prompt automatically before I could start the guidance .

I was unable to figure out how to start the guidance without entering a postcode .

Do I just need to find an up-to-date sat-nav disc with a current database of postcodes, so it recognises OX26_[blank, blank, blank] or is this down to 'user error'???

Driver error. You can't enter full postcode, once you've entered OX2_6 you then have to enter the street and house number after that (if known). If you don't know the postcode you just enter the Town/City into the postcode area. Do you have a D or an E SatNav - the E has a single 'large knob' on the right-hand side, the D has two equal sized knobs on either side of the screen?

Are you really asking the OP whether he has a "large knob"?

I have two equally-sized knobs. I guess that makes mine a D then

I did try to just use the Town and Street Name combo, but the menu then jumped back to postcode entry which I couldn't figure out how to skip!

I also think that OX26_ is somewhere completely different to OX2_ and OX26_ didn't seem to exist!

I think I'll have to take the instruction manual with me and sit in the car on driveway for a few minutes while I figure it out properly!

just use TomTom much better and easier to use than these built in ones

Yeah - have got a TomTom, but the built-in system is there to be used, comes up with decent voice guidance (as long as you've programmed in the correct destination )

I wanted to leave behind the world of sticky marks on your window and a power cable draped over the dash now I've upgraded to the RS6.

Might have to carry the TomTom as a backup until I learn how to use the on-board one

Freak! How are they held togther? I'd recommend duct tapping them togther when it comes time to empty your d*ck(s), it'd cause hellova otherwise.

Sounds like you may have an old disc which hasn't got OX26 on it

Just as an aside - the RNS-D and RNS-E only do 5 digit postcode.

i.e. OX2_6 or OX26.

This is because every other market the cars is sold in only has a 5 digit postcode.

Due to the "unique" way our country is organised we have a 7 digit...

The new A8 with MMI touch has 7 digit at last!

A bit annoying but you soon just work around it,

...that would be another option I suppose, but after the purchase, my 'backup' budget is for servicing and repairs and not sure that a sat-nav system upgrade counts!

Saving the cash for tyres, discs and pads... that sort of thing!
