While doing some work at the weekend I spotted nasty oily grease at the bottom side of the engine. Any clue what that is or where the oil might come from?

yep same as mine by the looks of it,i have a very very small leak coming from the rocker cover, unit 20 had a look and said not worth bothering about, i noticed it about 6 moon ago and iv not noticed any drop in the oil apparently its a common prob and to sort it the engine has to be moved

if your worried about that then here is another,i noticed that the rubber tubing coming off the n75s were coroded so took the air box off on Saturday and found that every bit of rubber had either cracked or fell to bits when i moved it,now that cant be good

it was easy to replace it all as its just diesel fuel line piping took 15 mins to replace, now it runs even better than before

and didn't even use any hammers

i did get some piks but just cant get them to go on here

Rocker cover? Looks to me like its coming from the oil filter housing. Where the housing meets the block (not where it meets the filter) there is bit with a couple of copper washers. They do leak from time to time and its a pretty straight forward fix, but will require a new filter housing as Audi made it a 'sealed unit' (not the cheapest fix).

I notice you said "gaskets" are you having both done?.. I did the passenger side a few months ago but was under the impression the drivers side has access issues and you need to drop the engine to sort - i'd be interested to know how they do it without dropping the engine if it's both sides for future reference.. ta
