mrc map.

Post by alexrs6plus » Sun Jun 27, 2010 2:39 pm

Mabye one for the mrc guys.
I allways run it on optimax.
Im going mrc to check over a map they done for me should it be checked over with optimax or normal super?

I will be going south of italy this year and getting hold of of anything but 95 ron is a pain, some places like agip do a 97 ron super and the occasional shell does 100 ron but they are quite far to go.

Does anybody know if the mrc map retards ignition to save the engine?

Get MRC to set you up with water injection, that'll have your detonation going "full <beep>"... the ONLY time you're allowed to go full <beep>.
Water/meth injection will sort your 95RON issue.
No matter where you go, there you are.

I ran my 6 on 95 for 1000 miles in France this year with absolutely no issues. If going on long runs I sometimes use 95 here in the UK again with no issues. You do run slightly less MPG though, around -3mpg.

I would have to assume that any reputable tuners map would definitely retain all safety measures. And that at the slightest hint of detonation will <beep> the ignition. And MRC is one of the best. So I would say you are safe at a lower octane rating. Just less power, that's all..

You could always take some Octane Booster such as Millers CVL if you are that concerned, but as Vintron says, you car will perfectly safe.

The adaptation tables will compensate if left with sensible parameters.

bam bam - any idea what WI gives you performance wise? I know about reduced burn temps and better timing etc but in reality what does it bring to the party? I am about to install it and am curious.

I'm not sure about how HP useful it'll be on a NA car other than levelling a RON deficit and of course cooling and air density. There's a theory that it will keep intakes clean on direct injection engines, might be great news for you B7 boys! I've got a couple of mates that run water/meth (mostly meth) on their scoobys in Australia. Without their meths it's about a 10-20% drop in power. But some of them are running 20 to 25 psi boost
I'd also read somewhere that some yank 335i drivers were getting great results, again, forced induction. Americans love it because their fuel is so sh1te.
I'm not sure of your reasons but I assume you've spoken to MRC? Surely they could tell you a lot more, if so, I'd like to know more too. Feed the backs.
BTW Rob, how much (all in) was your kit?
