Well, finally it happend, first scrape with plod today, stuck behind a faxoring VW Touran who thought he could just sit in the outside lane becuae he was at 87. WHY!!? Its for overtakling not sitting in...Piss off and MOVE!!!
Anyway, finally pulled over (only because he saw them first), I of course with a finger, eased past and WHAMO.. Blue lights....

Not been tugged in the past ever and no points to date but they said it goes to court if it's over 96MPH...Never been here before so interested in views on exactly how far this could go and what the repercussions are?

Other than that maybe a good lawyer/solicitor and or letter/resources to say you can't go without your license, i.e. work, etc

Probably a case for Freeman. Trouble is that I expect they will throw in a load of verbiage about "aggressive" overtaking etc. Freeman is costly - but effective.

iv been to court for speeding, though wasnt doing 3 figures....if you can make good enough representation in court as to why you cannot afford to be banned, they make just give you 6 points given it was on a motorway

if it is a ban, it should only be short (weeks) but ouch your insurance will hurt!

I think you've got a chance to just get points, but will depend on how much you can sway the judge with your reasoning (sob story)

I was lucky, got clocked in a very similar situation coming onto the A27 from a sliproad accelerating hard...infront of an A27 travelling copper. Nuts!, I thought, can't be that bad, only just on the motorway. They recorded me at 101.2. I was shocked watching the video in the back of the car and begged forgiveness as I needed the car for work etc and was rushing to pick someone up. Also told em I'd only had the car a few weeks and it 'surprised me'.

Seemed to work though, I thought...ban. Drove away with £60 fine and 3 points! PHEW!

And Damn did she look good on video!!!

Blimey Dave! Your story should be like the light at the end of a dark tunnel. Sadly I don't suppose I'll be that lucky. I never really got a chance to talk to him. Took details, told me to expect a summons in 12 weeks, possibly a letter that I can plead guilty too, then its a fine and points but not with my luck...

dude its down to the fuzz who stop you,i got followed on to the motorway by a T5 and he caught me sitting at the lights 6 mile later he recons he was doing 155 an i was still no were in sight (i didn't see him come on the motorway with me)anyway sitting in the rear of his car he asked how fast i was doing to which i replied 70 (EVERYTHINK you say is recorded in police cars now)when he stopped laffin he said anything over a ton is supposed to go to court but if i excepted a 3 points and a 60 quid fine he could deal with it there,to which i said ooohhh go on then get a letter of your boss to say you need your licence for to get to work and you solicitor to say that you could take a bigger fine for less points it may just work,my mate has 17 points and still has his licence (discretion of the magistrates whether you get banned at 12 points)Tobe honest i think they make it up as they go along so not all is lost in your case

My mate got caught a number of years back in his Calibra Turbo (some would say he deserved to be removed from the highway owning a Calibra! )doing 101mph on the bypass between Kirkcaldy and Glenrothes. He apologised to the sheriff for a momentary lack of judgement and explained that he needed his license to drive vehicles in whilst at work in West Africa (oil industry). He got 6 points and a £300 fine.

I got caught doing 95mph in a 70mph limit between Perth and Dundee and wrote to the sheriff court admitting liability however at the time I was serving in the TA. I explained that I was in the process of being mobilised for Iraq and that her majesty required her servicemen to have clean licences in order to operate her light skined recon armour. I got only 4 points and a £150 fine.

Might be worth the 'need my license for work' stance. Good luck!

Just explain in full the situation with the van driver and how he was baiting you (minus the finger) and you should be ok. Yes you'll get points and a fine but if you are honest and 'very sorry'then you shouldnt get a ban. Its not like you were doing 150mph on a country / residential road. Judges are drivers too.

Just so you know, the plod are operating whats known as 'no excuses patrols' at the moment to rake in some more cash. The guys doing it are on overtime as they can't justify the patrols on regular hours as it makes them look like they are out looking for money when they should be lookin for crims - which they are. The guys volunteering for this are bastards and enjoy the overtime and the power so beware. My mate (Plod) was out the other night and he got pulled for driving at 68mph on the motorway in his L200. The reason they did his is because any comercial vehicle such as Navara or L200 is by law restricted to 60mph on the motorway. He'll fight the case and win as its his personal vehicle but the fact that he got pulled is testiment to how anal thse volunteers are.

I got caught on the A127 also doing a clocked 113mph. It did go to court but i put on my best suite and i used my most polite voice and pleaded that i needed the lisence for work or i may lose my job. they took pitty and gave me 185 quid fine and 6 points. that was some 8 or 9 years ago and the points have long gone. so dress nice and be nice and all is not lost. you could use the fact that toran moved out of the way as an excuse that you wanted to just overtake and then slow down again and that it wasnt your plan to keep travelling at that speed. as it was only just over the ton, it may help things too.

Anything over 100 is a instant driving ban when you go to court and contest you need your licence for work, this will fall on death ears as it is your fault you drove at that speed and got caught, the only way you can get off of a driving ban and this is how i managed it was you must proove that there are extenuating circumstances of why you need your driving licence with out this you will get banned straight away, the circumstances you need are if there is of hardship to other people ie.. your fellow workers or your family with out prooving hardship you will be banned, they do not take into account that you may loose your job at all, beleve me i have been through it all.

they did in my case, I remember him saying that he wanted to punish me for speeding but the possibility of me loosing my job was far too much and that they didnt want their choices to affect my career, hence the bigger fine and more points.
