Need help with wheel refurb

Post by GardinerG » Thu Mar 18, 2010 10:44 am

I am hoping someone can help: I need to get the wheels off my car to send to a refurb place, the problem is my drive is on a fair slope and I sold the original wheels years ago!

I don't think it would be safe to stick it up on axle stands all round, so does anyone in my area have a spare set of wheels that will fit the RS6 that I can borrow? They won't be driven on, promise! (no track days...) :D

Thanks anyway el_ringo! If only I had an S4, those guys seem to have a bazillion sets of wheels.

Does anyone slightly more local have a set, pretty please?

Ok, they are typical Audi fitment 5x112, 57.1PCD 35 offset IIRC! So, does anyone have a set of 18"+ spare wheels/tyres that will fit and that I can use?

I'm yet to do it, but Wheels in Motion (Chesham, so not all that close to you!) said they could keep the car safely for me whilst the wheels were refurbed (they don't do the refurbs themselves) and I found another local company who'd do the same...

One of my local companies do offer the same service but I'd rather stick with Lepsons, WIM or WRC. Lepsons will collect but I just need to get the wheels off my car somehow. :)

Ok, bollocks to it, I'm going to have to go the sands route. I have 1 trolley jack, 1 Audi jack and 4 axle stands.

I know I'm to use the standard jack points to lift the car but where do I put the axle stands so as to not damage the car? I can't use the standard points as they are in use getting it into the air!

Or where best to lift front/rear to put stands on standard point?

Ta!

Best to keep the suspension loaded I think... maybe Grizz could confirm? But if you're on a slope that would make the car more unstable.
Do you have a friend/neighbour with a flat drive?

This might help someone else looking to do this:

I will leave the wheels on until the whole car is on the stands and secure. Simples.

I have a choice of Lepsons or Spit N Polish. Does anyone have a preference, and if so why? :D

I have used both. Lepsons tend to do more high end stuff.... I would prefer to use them for an RS4/6 etc.... But they are not the best. Pristine Wheels in Milton Keynes work to an even higher standard.

Spit N Polish are also fine and cheaper. I have used them for cars where the finish is not that critical, but price is.

Both good companies. :)
