Has anyone used/can recommend any after market double din kits. I have been told that my Kenwood double din (DNX-7200) won't fit in the cage ? Wondered if anyone else has fitted a Kenwood into one ?

Hi,

I fitted my Kenwood DNX-5240bt last week . The kit you refer to wont fit, you dont need the cage. I actually used my dual single din rubber face plate I brought a while back and just cut out the center bit, it's actually the same as the double one. It's a very tight fit and i havent even yet push in any of the securing tabs.

Really impresssed with the Kenwood and i'm using the roof Shark fin antenna for the GPS.

Gareth which facia do you recommend then? And which sharkfin did you buy?

I didn't need the one with the cage for my kenwood.

This site has most of the bits you need;

http://www.dynamicsounds.co.uk/double-f ... 1_747.html

You will need a double din face plate, the one without the cage at the bottom of the page at £10 won't break the bank if it's wrong.

I'm using the existing sharkfin antenna on my roof, still testing it as I only fitted the adapter on Friday and haven't used the car all weekend. First impressions not as good as the supplied gps antenna, but need to check this week.

Thats what I thought but apparently a kenwood double din isn't Iso so this surround and cage won't fit ? can't get anyone to verify this though. Also the unit I have (dnx720) has a tilting screen so needs different surround. The posts here also seem to think I don't need a cage. So the only thing in the kit that I need is the facia. May aswell buy the separate one.
Also not sure if I have BOSE front and back or just back as this seems to be important for the terminal connectors/adapters.

If you have an RS6, which I assume you do, it will be a full Bose, front and back amp'd plus sub in the boot.

You will also need an fm radio adapter, about £7.

Where in the boot in an avant is the amp and sub located?

On the right behind the trim door.

Oh, yes, update.

I have now fitted the kenwood supplied gps antenna. The roof one on my rs was pants. Not sure if it was duff or just rubbish, but I was only getting about 3 satelites and that was after driving 15 miles on an open motorway.

I installed the kenwood gps antenna today along with the microphone for the Bluetooth phone and on the way home today I could see over 10 satelites and that was as soon as I left.

FYI, I installed it in the roof, above the front interior light cluster. The gps antenna had a magnet and it's "stuck" to my roof, on the inside of course! Also mounted my microphone between the two lights.
Took me about 30-40 mins to remove the a pilar trim and chase the wires though.

This is so frustrating... I have removed the RNS-D and an old Nokia craddle that was in the car. Tried the DNX-720 I really think it needs a craddle as its kind of flopping about loose, Gareth did you fit a craddle and what fixings did you use ? Where did you fit the Bluetooth unit ? damn it need some light/time...

The only cradle I fitted was the one that came with the kenwood.

I can take some pictures tomorrow if you like.

My kenwood "5240bt" comes with Bluetooth built in. I also ran the iPod/iPhone lead to my armrest and like you, removed the old nokia phone and cradle.
I also ran a video out to the arm rest for if I ever plan to use rear screens for the kids.
