Finally bought one

Post by chesney » Mon Mar 08, 2010 12:29 pm

Finally bought one!

03 plate, silver, 67k miles, black leather, MF Heated SW, Alcantara headlining, Bilstein PSS9's, Hotchkiss ARB's. Full main dealer history and 2 cambelt changes, rs6+ drilled discs front/rear all of which looked failry fresh. New P zero's all round too. 1 year warranty (not that it will cover much but better than nothing. Has had a recent health check.

The bodywork is near mint so I can live with a bit of wear and tear inside. Door grab handles have wear as does the drivers bolster which is the only part of the leather that needs attention. I can see tiny bubbles under the paint on the rear arches which looks like a place they seem to go and hope it will get covered by the anti corrosion warranty if I get it into the dealer quickly enough.

Fisrts impressions were that it felt a bit wooly on the bends but worked out the tyre pressures were all far too low and after sorting it out it felt much better. I'd say after driving the bmw it feels a bit understeery and its far noisier. Lots of road and drivetrain noises at certain speeds.

Got 26mpg from it on the run up according to the display. Ragged it to work this morning and it was showing 24.5mpg. Filled it up and it was an actual 23mpg so can't complain really lol!

I feel used to the power already and can see why some remap the box as it refuses to go into 5th until 40mph and cruising at 30mph in town it flicks between 3rd/4th.

I'm wondering who did the mods to it??

Congratulations! Now let's see some pics :)

I know what you mean about the gear change in town. It changes at exactly 30mph which is a real pain.

Try contacting MRC to get the TCU repgrogrammed. MTM can do it, too, but not sure if they will without doing a chip tune, too.

Congrats, good spec and mods.

Corrosion isn't a good sign but hopefully that'll get sorted by the dealer if still covered.

Noise - combination of tyres and suspension. I too found the BMW to be better insulated but then the RS6 is 7 years old...

Who's supplying the warranty? If Audi then it's worth it's weight in gold ;)

Almost twice that. The C5 was introduced in 1997.

There you have it.......it's ancient!

My 2001 E39 was a nicer place to be when inside.

E39 cabin was and still is KING ! Best cabin that BM ever made, esp when comparing to their modern horrific designs !

the EPC light has been on and off ever since I bought it...had it in before and they changed a part, but it came back on

so now they've done a deep dive and dismantled the engine and are charging the warranty co something like 10 hours labour plus parts...>£1k !

not entirely sure whats up, something with the air box, manifold...will get the lowdown when i pick it up

I think the 1.8T must be 120PS version as its proper sh8te - struggles to get over 30mpg also

Wow cheers for all the reply's.

I think I may need to look into a more comprehensive warranty as the one they gave with the car looks useless.

Thanks to this forum I had a good idea of what to look out for and reckon this car came pretty close to ticking all the boxes. Only worry is the 'box and I think I'll get it serviced and see how it goes. I don't drive that hard 90% of the time so it will be getting an easy life in my hands.

Oh forgot it has the solar roof too. Got 3 kids under 5 and they were even more hyper than I was when I got back with it LOL. Gave it a mild prod on the throttle and they were all giggling away in the back. Thought I'd best stop as I don't want them becoming power junkies when they grow up!

I found on nice smooth roads it handles quite well but on rough roads it tramlines quite badly.....a bit like a 3 series sport I had. Assume this is the camber as its lowered quite a lot plus the big wheels. I was considering raising it a tad and getting the geometry set up.

Check what your PSS9s are set to. Anything above 4 and it's going to be unpleasant;

....Oh and it has the built in sun blinds too which is great for the kids.

Has the electric steering wheel adjustment too but there is a problem as it only comes in and out and not up/down. Dealer said to take it to Audi and get it sorted and send them the bill. Hope they are true to their word and do cover it. Not sure if its the switch or the motor.

Not had a chance to check the damper setting. Assume its mid setting as the ride is actually quite good and had I not known I'd be convinced it was not lowered as it rides as I would expect a std car would. How easy is it to adjust the damping? I guess with the winter weather the adjuster might be a bit seized up
