Ok, I bought a pair of intercoolers of ebay. i think they leak. F@@king car is costing me a fortune, i am ready to pull the plug on ownership.
£6000.00 in three years excluding fuel!!
Should they hold water if i fill them??
what is the concept to a intercooler??

Never heard of a water test, but then most are tested in situ with air pressure. Can't see what harm it would do to water test them. As long as you dry them out before butting them on the car.
They are supposed to be gas tight so if they leak water then there must be some pretty big holes in them. Small holes that let gas escape may not let water through, though I think in this gas the holes will be too small to affect performance.

I was bidding on these intercoolers also just to have spare in the garage. Glad I didnt touch them. If you paid by Pay Pal get your money back mate.

Easy to do a pressure test .. If they leak get them cleaned and resealed.....

Well, do they leak or not?

Yeah they leak!!!
Im dissapointed with the youth i bought them off, I reckon he knew they were leaking.

What i think im gonna do is take grizz's advice.
diy job. get down to my mates garage. follow the thread from RS6.com on removing i/c's and repairing them (great thread!!) fit these when repaired, clean the ones up that on the car and sell them on fixed.
Anyone suggest a good resin??
Do you think i will be able to get rid of the repaired i/c's?

Isn't there another aftermarket solution other than the wagners?

Apikol has a set that's not quite as big as the Wagners, but way bigger than stock. You have to trade in your old ones for cores - they use the end caps and stuff fatter cores in between them. About the same net cost as OEM for more performance/better cooling.

Anyone got a set of these Apikol jobbies? What kind of performance gain should you expect?

Yeah not A bad solution but still
£750 + labour
I ve got a service coming up!
I think if you get the right weld,
repair is the way

I would imagine a tricky weld repair to do...... gouge out, prep, preheat, right weld material with same Vc as the parent alloy, controlled cooling.....not for the inexperienced.
Epoxy is an option but not sure on the longevity of it in the cyclic heat/cooling stress regime. Devcon is well respected but I have never used it for this type of stuff
http://www.devcon.com/products/products ... %20%28F%29
or their Ti version resists 350 degrees F.
Why dont you ping the guy on RS6.com to see if his repair is still air tight....

I would be interested in comparing logs of a healthy car with one with leaky intercoolers. My thinking is that leaky IC would take longer to pressurise. Although the car would be running richer than normal.

I've not looked before - how much are the Wagners to fit?
