Can somebody help me with the problem I am currently experiencing with the brake on my RS6.

When you come to a stop, I am getting a grinding noise as if the front pads were worn. Now the car is less than 3 months old and has only done 3500 miles.

Unless somebody has changed the pads woithout knowing I am at a loss.

I have taken it to Audi in both Coventry and Worcester and all they can say is that it is dirt on the pads. However within 10 miles of leaving the garage the problem returns. Either I've just gone through a farmers field or the problem is somethign else.

Has anybody else experienced this problem?
OR Better still, suggestions please as to what it can be so I can get it sorted.

When braking from 100mph plus the last thing you want top hear is a grinding from the front end.

I have experienced this problem on my S3 - I had greenstuff pads fitted and after cooking them by repeatedly harsh braking, the copper bits in the pads started to scour the discs creating a grinding noise, evident whilst braking at low speeds.

Have you been slowing down rapidly recently? also did you bed the brakes in properly?

Another cause of grinding noise can be small stones/grit lodged in the pad material gaps

I also thought there could be grit or something actually caught within the pad, or even the drilled holes in the disc, rubbing against the bed etc. It's possible that the pads got very hot very quickly when they were brand new, and in some cases this can cause slight surface cracking. Especially with drilled discs, this could certainly cause a loud grinding noise like you are describing. This is a problem I had when I had new pads fitted. The (muppet) mechanic who fitted them took it for a spin just to click them right into the calipers, and must have NAILED the brakes, because they were totally cooked and cracked within 50 miles, and I had driven very gently deliberately. Other than that I think I'm stumped!

Possible solutions: new pads I think. But certainly you want to try and get a look at the surface of the pads, and maybe even the holes in the discs (assuming you have drilled discs, I am unaware of the actual RS6 specs).

On my Allroad dirt got cought as the heat shileds were bent out for the vibrating noise they made. Problem solved when I bent them back myself.

I do occasionally get dirt on my pads.. a bit of hard braking generally cleans them off.. I would get a hose to the discs and clean out the drilled discs and see how you get on
