Two dealers quote me for a 55,000 mile service

1st one sounds okay

£452 incl vat inclu. air filter £95; pollen filter £41; £30 fuel filter

next one is £650 for same service !! - dealers 20 miles apart

One dealer in servicing asks me if the RS6 is a diesel - I mean jesus !!

Does £452 sound about right and what exactly do they do (cambelt not required as replaced at 30,000)

I would rather take to Grizz but worry about the impact on selling on if not continued with dealer service albeit somebody like Grizz should bring a premium to selling on in my book as I know dealers are a bunch of rip off merchants

You could buy some of those bits yourself, get your oil from oilman from opie oils (or wherever is cheapest).

Ring around to get the best quote for the service all in (even independant specialists, you're just after a price), take that quote to which ever audi dealer you feel will actually do the service correctly and ask them to price match (might be worth having 2 best prices in mind, 1 from independant and 1 from Audi in case they wont match the indie).

If they match, then ask how much of that price is for parts/oil and ask if they will knock that off if you supply your own.

I did that with my A2 at the audi dealer in Coventry and it brought the price right down.

Alternatively, use Grizz/MRC. I've only recently bought my RS6 so I'm fresh from researching. Anyone who is like me will quickly find this site during their research and they should also quickly find lots of references to Grizz at unit 20 and MRC and know both have very good names. Having Grizz servicing my car by its previous owner was a plus point for me.

That said, if you're gonna sell soon and can get a competitive price from Audi, I'd go that route, otherwisse, if you're keeping the car, go Grizz/MRC.

problem is too many people are ignorant about cars and think a main dealer history adds value....only the minority visit owners clubs. Though I do hope its majority in the case of rare cars such as the RS 6.

Personally, if your not tied to warranty, I would get Audi to change the oil for £180 so you get a stamp, then get Unit 20 or MRC to do a proper service - if it works out cheaper ( i dont know how much the other part would be)

I have full audi warranty. How do you get a dealers service stamp if they just change the oil?

Grizz I think said he can do service where the warranty is backed by or with inchape (spelt wrong?) which Audi UK said mine was, therefore as you say Mart, having a car serviced by Grizz is a bonus when selling but on the basis the purchaser has visited and researched these forums like I did.

Audi will change the oil and filter for £180 and so stamp the book - if you find a dealer who will abide to their new nationwide pricing policy of a interim service of £99 up to 2.0 car. The only difference therefore it the price of oil

but if you car is due a major service then obviously that different. Car should be serviced every 10k so at 55k im not sure whether your after a major or minor service, but guessing major (i.e. plugs etc)

Plugs, pollen and air filter were replaced at 37,000 mile service (18,000 ago). Do these need replacing as part of this service ?

I will check with Audi again as they (main audi number) told me it that my all compenent warranty was backed by inchape

Mine is having a 55,000 service on Wednesday by Dundee Audi, they quoted me £160 but will find out Wednesday if theres any additions.

Plugs should be every 20k, so due a change soon.

its a 10k service, last service was the plugs, air filters etc, so i think this one is oil service, duno if they do the pollen filters too with this too.

Phoned audi today and yes it's Mondial. sorry didnt doubt you I just thought they told me inchape.

Main dealer it is then. £530 best price can get across 3 dealers for a major service.

Stansted Audi have just quoted me £496.59 including VAT for the 5th service

beware, standsted are part of essex audi, and both chingford and docklands are a bunch of w*nkers so i'd steer clear

Yes. Every 20000 miles.

In the land of Skyline GTR, I don't think there is an owner in the UK that would use a Nissan main dealer (Middlehurst aside) for servicing work. Main dealers never seem to give you confidence that they will care for the car as much as you would, and some as we see here are inconsistant with their pricing. This may not be the case all the time, but in so many cases main dealers just prove themselves to be idiots! I have no issue with using an RS specialist for all the work on my car, and it never did me any harm with my GTR ownership.
