Need to replace a pair of Michelins, are these still the ones to have or are there better options?

Also these are for the rear, is it OK to mix manufacturers front / rear?

IMO mixing front and rears is ok.
In terms of options I'd consider Falken FK452 or Vreds.

I had an apparent issue with different tread depths front and rear. rears were new, fronts were 4mm. traction control light used to flash on full throttle in 1st/2nd. seems to have gone now ive replaced the front tyres too. could be a coincidence but in theory the rears would have been large than the fronts marginally so trying the fronts may have been losing traction.

i think tyres having the same profile but from different manufacturers could still have different rolling radiuses???? is so, then mixing front/rear COULD cause the same symptoms I experienced.

Yes same here. But stuck with standard 255's. Might go to 275s next time just to see how different they are now I know they fit ok.

Not sure I understand the logic in going down in width - 255 is standard isn't it??

Having tried various:
- PZero - grippy but wore very quickly
- PS2 - very solid, wore well, but pricey
- Dunlop - won't fit at front, but fine on the rear, and wore out quicker than PS2
- Vred's - doing it for me at present - but I have the 275/30 option

Camskill have some good deals on the Vreds at present, and it cost me £9/cornner for my local tyre place to fit and balance. Worth it for all the admiring looks and questions that the car/tyres attracted!

No problem mixing manufactures between front and rear as long as size/profile is the same and wear level is not too different. Must have near identical tyres on each axle though.

Do the Vreds have the same "overhang" (can't think of a better word) as the Michelin that prevents a lot of the scuffing of alloys on Kerbs?

AFIK they have a kerb protector rib on both the 255 and 275's.

Yes my 255s have a kerb protector. Not much but just enough for a slight brush when parking. The 275 might have a bit more.

I suspect that the protector is the same size on both tyres - but because the 275 is both wider, and squatter, the side wall projects more ensuring the protector doesn't get pushed back by the kerb.

HTS - I have a used pair of PS2's with about 4mm if you want a temporary solution till you need all four doing
