Someone doesn`t know whats happened to their SL65!!

Post by mattler » Fri Aug 14, 2009 7:49 pm

Well I can safely say that I`ve had my first "shat on from a great height" experience yesterday (on a private road of course)
Driving along at 60-65 and up comes a merc SL but immediately it looked somehow different. I pulled into the inside lane and the guy comes level with me, looks over with a massive grin then guns it!! This thing absolutely left me for dead then a roundabout came up so I tried to gain a bit on the braking as I was counting on him not braking too hard or going round on the grip limit as he was wearing TRADE PLATES???
Wrong, he quite clearly threshold braked and carried so much speed throught the roundabout I was literally staggered.
I can only assume it was a black series and some new owner to whom it was being delivered to has`t a clue what went on....
Has anyone else had experience against this level of car in the 6???

Might have been one of the drivers from MB world - you're in that neck of the woods, aren't you?

Not surprising you got shat on... it's lighter and has 661bhp and 737lb.

a black....there only a handful in the country, i saw on on the A1 on way to work, you cant miss them, they're as wide as three double decker buses! !!

a 63 will take an RS no problem, but no think they're lighter, still 2 tonnes, but more power....thou I had an 55 up my arse and he was no faster

Lets be honest chaps - we're in yesterday's technology thesedays :) No way we can hope to keep up or deal out red faces to those in todays super/hypercars. Black or no black, no shame in losing out in my book.

the 6 is a heavy car and tbh a turbo's fiesta would probably have it up to 30mph. My mate had me in his S3 off the lights (I did have 4 up though)

Yep, it was definately a black. And yes it was WIDE, it looked very much like a DTM car if you know what I mean.

RS6 is a fast super saloon but my stock version often gets blown away here as there are some real exotic bits of kit here. I have gone head to head with a few and these are the ones that pulled away easily (that I can remember):

Nissan new GTR
Nisssan R34 GTR (tuned to 650hp)
SL55 (probably chipped)
SL65 (V12 twin turbo)
Brabus Bullit
Brabus something or other that was black - probably a stealth Rocket.
Lambo diablo
Some 911 turbos

I may get mine chipped soon but there is no way it would get close to these as they were in a different league........

Ones that have been marginally quicker but not much in it:
new M5
E55
Cayenne Turbo S (probably chipped)
A few 911 turbos
Carrera S
Corvette Z06

Regardless of this, considering we are in 9-10 yr old technology the RS6 is not doing too bad and is very good power to cost ration when some of these are hundreds of thousands of quid....

Thats a good point about the power to cost.
I was actually really chuffed because I`ve had the car now for 5 months and until the sl65 turned up, nothing had beaten me. Admittedly some guys just plain bottled it when they realised they would actually have to use the full capability of their car to win.

Interesting you say that about the GTR Paul, I had a race from the lights against one all the way up to 35 mph. We were neck and neck and then I turned in for fuel ..
