Having had my four shocks replaced last week, I can answer that No the central valves don't need replacing - provided they hold pressure !
Either the central valves can be replaced with new ones OR if the dealer has the "new tool" required with the new shocks then the existing valves can be recharged.

Bobby,
Only had them fitted a week but I would say they are quieter and more supple, i.e. a less "wooden" feel and you don't seem to feel every bump and inperfection in the road surface that the originals had.
I seem to recall from memory reading a post on here sometime in the past that the shocks were pressurised to 16 bar or more but my Audi dealer I am sure said the new ones are at 22 bar.
Anyway only time will tell as I expect they will settle down a bit after a few miles.

I cannot wait to have them renewed, at the moment they are only weeping, i am very impressed with how well the car handles now with the weeping shocks, just hope it gets even better with the new ones will let you know.

Hi guys,
I have a similar problem with my DRC, but I have nothing leaking on my system, no shocks, no valves, nothing! When I drive it it feels more like an american car, floating around. When driving over pot holes the rear feels like jumping around. So I decided to speak to Audi today and they suggested re-preasurrising the control valves to see if it behaves better. Is this going to help? Is it worth the money (some 300 Euro)? Should I demand some kind of guarantuee?
My theory is that the valves have been slightly de-preassurized ever since I bought it, and because of that my system is still "working", but not at all as good as it should. I have a 2003 version @ 160 000km. I've had some disturbing noices/clonking from the back of the car, but now it's gone. I've driven it almost 30000km but now I start to imaging it's becomming more "sloppy & loose".
Please advise.

Im sure the sticky at the top of this forum about replacing the suspension with something else, said that when the DRC was drained, they noticed that the fluid was very aerated!!!
I just wondered whether this is the case with yours. Does the fluid get aerated over time??? Or is that just when its leaking? That would cause it to be bouncy/floating about. Maybe there IS a leak but its tiny but just enough to let air in. Just a though.
Anyone know if the DRC fluid needs to be changed, just like brake fluid??? Or is it designed to be a completely sealed-for-life system?

If there is air in the system, it will be very bouncy and the ride height will be wrong.
Magnus, mine was like yours. No leaks or clunks, but bouncing around. I'm pretty sure in sweden Audi won't change the DRC for free, so my advice is to put that 300€ towards Bilsteins.

No, they won't do it FOC. My "dilemma" is that I haven't found a good price on coil-overs in Sweden (when I check outside Sweden they are much cheaper, so I need to order from abroad), but I guess visiting AUDI is just postponing the inevitable, as you say.
Anyone knowing a reliable source of Bilstein?

How much do they cost in Sweden?
