Anyone recommendations??
My priority is a new alternator so it needs to be pretty close to Southampton area initially before the battery goes flat :-0

Camberley have a great reputation and helpful staff - give Rob Chorley a ring. About 45mins from Soton, and very close to Jn 4 on M3

I can recomend Kartechnic in poole. Good labour rates, helpfull staff all trained by Audi / BMW / Merc. Might be a little far but its an idea (actually same distance to Camberly from S'ton). And i have seen some good stuff from Ray west in Salisbury.

Many thanks for the above!! It's gone to audi Southampton in this instance as was only doing about 30 mobs before battery flat!! £700 for alternator replacement!! But will bear the suggestions in mind for the cambelt and multitronic oil change due in 3,000 miles! Ouch!!! Have read elsewhere on here that parts were uprated for cambelt and last 60000 miles - asked audi and they confirmed. Don't think I'll take the risk though and wait until 100000 for cam but might have gearbox done at 80000 and cam at 85000 just to spread the cost!

I spoke to my local dealer about the cam belt as well. He said that its still 40k in Germany, but because of our roads here (and the low speed limits) the engines aren't stressed as much so the interval has been extended...

Did you sort your alternator in the end?

oops, I missed your post where you said you had it replaced for £700.
RS6s don't have multitronic boxes. If your dealer doesn't know the difference, don't let him touch yours.

Yes am trying to get some or all of the £700 back from the dealer who sold it to me under 'his' warranty. he is doing the 'need to speak to the boss - i'll call you back' and then nothing routine. he also said the warranty was a very basic engine and gearbox one. i would include the alternator as part of the engine personally. but i guess thats subjective. but since it failed an hour after i bought the car i would hope for some form of 'goodwill' gesture if nothing else.
as for gearbox oil. i guess its wise to replace the oil every 40,000 as per audi schedule.

Download an N1 form for a county court claim. Fill it in but don't sign it. Send it to him. Tell him that all you've got to do is sign it and send it off, but yo'ure willing to give him a chance to put things right. Agressive technique, but works when yo'ure getting the run around.

There is no Audi schedule for the tiptronic box. It's a "fluid for life" box. Audi have a different definition of "life" than I do, but there you go. Last time I spoke to CS they said my "car was old anyway".
There *is* a fluid change schedule for the multitronic (CVT) box which is NOTHING LIKE your box. I say again, if your dealer thinks he's dealing with a multitronic box I'd be very wary about letting him near it.
