CV boots question

I've got my car booked in for tomorrow to get the CV boots changed. They're both completely split and have kindly emptied themselves all over the inside of my rims.
So far as I can tell, the CV joints are fine, but I can see it coming - Audi saying I have to change the CV joints.
Does anyone have any experience with this? Give me some ammunition?

As long as the joint has greece in it still it'll be ok.
If the joint is dry and has play in it it'll need changing...
The boots are £27+ vat each and take 1 hour a side @ most.

Great, thanks for that, Grizz. Can you feel the play by pulling on the drive shaft?

Twist the shaft with your hand.

Me twisting my shaft with my hand at the audi dealership will make a change from just assuming the usual bending over position.

Nice one!
Assume the position...the RS6 is in at the dealers!

Well, I can still just about walk straight. They didn't make a fuss about changing the CV joints. I didn't even have to shake my shaft at them.
I told them no road test, but they were adamant. In the end I agreed to let the workshop manager only drive it. He put a mile on it. I can live with that.
Spot on the price, grizz. Except they're a bit slower than you - 1.4 hours per side.
