intercooler upgrade - high air temp

Post by albertpl » Sat May 09, 2009 8:55 pm

Hello,

I have a plan to get down with the air temperature after the intercoolers in my RS6.

There are some steps that can be taken but I would need some of your advice

First step is to take the fog lights out. That will enable better flow of the air.

Second step is making custom grille. Just one like MTM and Sportec makes. Maybe some one knows where to buy the grile ?

Third step would be the replacement of the intercoolers.

There are two options:
1) Sportec kit that is very expensive. The best price I have found is at AmD Technik Inc. VAT £3333.85 (Exc. VAT - £2899.00).

2) Making my own custom Intercoolers based on sizing of Sportec. Core dimensions are as follows: 270 x 270 x 64mm.

Are the any other ways to the the temperature of the air down ? Are there any other companies making intercooler kit for RS6 ?

I would like the upgrade to be permanent so things like aquamist are not an option.

The changeout of the ICs looks very expensive although I believe there was a stock option for bigger/more efficient ICs?
Probably cheapest option to get cooler air is to route some water sprays onto the ICs. Easiest way is to spur off the headlight washer jets onto the ICs and either turn them on by doing your window washer or put in another switch to turn on the pump. I have not done it on a RS6 but know a few garages that have done similar on Scoobies, Evos etc.

I would like the modification to be permanent, when the water runs out ... the temp gets high again.
