Good Morning all,

Just become a proud owner of a RS6 2003 Saloon, 40,000 miles Silver with Black leather,

I am hoping some one may be able to give me a few pointers,

1) What should have looked out for and checked before buying this car!

2) I have tried to buy an after market warranty with warranty direct but they have refused to Insure this car?!?, Are there any other reputable warranty companies out there worth the paper there written on? - my stealer wanted £400 per year and the exclusion list was 5 miles long!!

Your help will be much appreciated.

Being a TOTAL novice with this very exciting breed, I can now understand why every owner of one of these little toys has a permanent grin on their face!!

You probably SHOULD have done some research before buying!

The things that you should look out for in summary are; DRC (Suspension that is <beep> and wont work for more than a nano second) to do a total DRC replacement = approx £3000 at the dealers. Gearbox £8000 at the stealers. Servicing is not cheap, stear clear of the stealers for all of this work and you should find it a bit cheaper.
At 40k the cam belt is due, has it been done? if not sit down when you get the quote.
As for Warranty, cant help you there. Mine is with Inchcape thru car care plan, but that was an audi thing. Warranty direct have had there fingers burnt with all the DRC claims.

But almost everything you could or should need to know is on the boards here somewhere.

Like Cornish said. Research will save you a packet, and if you havnt done it yet then you may get a nasty shock when it comes to servicing / maintenance. At 40k it will have required a belt change and service inc new thermostat and water pump. If this hasn't been done then you should get it sorted as soon as possible or else you risk massive repair costs. Also as Cornish said, if its got DRC then make sure its working and not on its way out. Its horrificly expensive to maintain / repair and isnt worth the metal its made from. If you can afford it then change to coilovers as soon as the DRC starts to fail.
Has it got a full service history? Is it an Audi one or has it been tinkered with by a independant? Is the independant a good one?
Check the alloys for buckling and wobble at speed (impact damage).
The list goes on.
If all this is in order then you are half way there and you can relax knowing that the big stuff is out of the way. It'll always be an expensive car to run, nature of the beast im affraid.

Oh, and when the tuning bug strikes, you will get to the stage, like me, where you will sell a kidney for 1 extra HP.

1) Check how many points you had on your licence pre-puchase, if its 6 or above then I'd subscribe to a good legal practice.

2) Enjoy it, its a performance car thats a few years old, of course things will go wrong and don't get hung up about them when they happen or it will needlessly spoil the ownership experience. Have a look around as there are now lots of aftermarket service agents capable of giving the beast the TLC it deserves when you need to. Don't expect that as you've bought it for the same price as a new mondeo its going to have similar running costs. You don't buy one of these if your priority is cheap motoring... your priority is to drive it like you stole it and enjoy every second with a ruddy great grin on your face!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, also the challenge is to see how quickly you can get through tyres and brakes; best I've seen is a set of brakes last 1 day, very expensive day and well funny!

The car has FASH and the cam belt etc changed at 32000 miles, Hopefully its been well looked after, certainly the body work and interiour is in very good condition.

I know this is going to be expensive motoring but wahay its going to make me happy!!!!!!
