Guys, I've got RS6/4 8 pot calipers on my A8 4.2 QS . They're just about due replacing, and wondered if anyone had any suggestions for alternatives to the standard pads for around the same price?

Go with the OEM RS6 pads- they are pagids, and really are excellent.
