Outside temp reading???

My outside temperature reading was a bit skewiffy today. Reading 18 - 25 degrees when it was obviously not that warm. it did drop to around 15 when driving sensibly, and went up to around 28 when driving hard. im guessing it must be coming into contact with something warm (radiator / hose etc), or its gone belly up.
where is the sensor located? i'd like to see if it had been moved by accident.

Mine has this problem too - always has. Generally reads about 3 degrees over what it should. Works OK at high speed, and shoots up when statioary.

I assume it's just sited too far under the bonnet somewhere.

as far as i know the sensor is situated just behind the front bumper, near the grille around the fog light. Problem is the RS6 generates so much heat soak that it is just picking up heat from the engine.

I found mine to the right hand side of the centre grill. My bracket was broken to I relocated mine under the car. That way there is little or no heat soak. I have dumped the oil cooler housing that the temp sensor plugged into and created a CF scoop that flows more air into the oil cooler. The fact that I did this ensured I had to move the sensor.

Ah! Is it the brown nipple thing that looks like a radio active material badge? the really non-air sensor looking thing that pokes through the plastic piece surrounding the cooler? Mine was still in place, and looks in good nick. Maybe its internally dead?
