My First RS 6

Hi, Ive been toying with the idea of an RS6's for some time and now the prices seem to have been hit by the credit crunch there seems to be some bargains to be had. Im thinking '02 or possibly newer if the budget allows.

Ive seen an '02 Avant car on the bay that looks good value but wondered what others thought.

Were there any changes from '02 - '04 that would be worth knowing about?

Hi mate, there ceertainly are some cheap cars out there, unfortunately for those already in possession (just means we need to drive em more to get better value for money!)

As far as im aware, no changes to the cars in any of the years they're in production. Except maybe the very later one's got RNSE sat nav, but this can be retro fitted

You'll prob find out from a simple search, but key things are
1. DRC (dodgy suspension)
2. Gearbox (on higher miles)

Everything else is in line with other cars really, in that if they can go wrong, they may well do, but when and how and if is pot luck.

Best to buy one with DRC replaced.

Prob best to budget buying an aftermarket warranty for the beast (circa £800) - then you'll have some peace of mind

There were no changes at all to the RS6 other than some had the updated RNSE as stated above. There is of course the RS6+ which had a number of changes and tweeks.

David, is that your avus RS6 for sale on PH?

it is im afraid - need to free up some capital thats currently tied up in a fast depreciating asset ! dont absolute need to until the summer, so if no takers will be enjoying the beast some more!

in an effort not to go off piste - RS6+ had extra power, lower suspension, RNSE, black optics and titan wheels, only 999 were made and only in 3 colours, blue, black and silver

I have just bought an RS6 Avant and am into my fourth week of ownership and would definitely recommend one as they are very practical, great performance and at a fraction of the cost of what they were when new.

Forget about depreciation, as all cars depreciate and if you were to worry about depreciation then you would never buy a car in the first place and this is simply part of the cost of owning and running (and enjoying) a car !

Personally I wouldn't buy one without a warranty or would purchase a warranty separately to cover any unexpected costs which can be expensive particularly in relation to the usual problems, i.e. DRC and Gearbox.

Running Costs, Running Costs, Running Costs.

For RS6 ownership you need to have deep pockets no matter the age or condition of the car.
Need to remember these cars new were around £70k so even if you can pick one up cheap, the running costs haven't depreciated, they are still for a £70k car.
They eat tyre's and brakes like there going out of fashion, plus the amount of fuel they car drink can wipe out your wages quicker than a drug problem.

If that doesnt put you off, then you'll enjoy every minute of owning one

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunatly the one I was watching has sold but I'll keep my eyes peeled for another.

I dont mind depreciation on a car like this - like you all say you have to look at the original cost and guage the amount of kit your now getting for a fraction of the price!
