Remap or Exhaust?

Post by Jess » Sun Feb 01, 2009 4:02 pm

I am considering buying myself a belated Xmas present for the RS. The choice is as per subject heading. Don't really have spare cash for both. What would you buy with the limited budget? Between 500-1000 Pounds.

1. Remap, so my car is going to win more motorway chases.
2. Milltek, so my car is going to sound like it can win more motorway chases.

Help me decide.
Thanks, Jess

MRC re-map  so you get 10-15% better economy and then with the money saved Milltek....

Earlier discussions on this topic have suggested the exhaust first as a custom remap will be adapted to the exhaust back pressures etc so will need to be re-done if you do the exhaust later. I'm not an expert though - talk to Grizz or the guys at MRC and they'll put you straight on this

Standard zorst is prob better quality than Milltek etc.

IMO I would just get the Remap, standard zorst sounds ok. You save about a grand too.

All good points, thanks people..

I will go for the remap. Does anyone know of a good reliable 4wd rolling road, so that I can get an idea of boost etc.. I live in East London (hackney)

Thanks again

Jess, there is no need for a rolling road to get an idea of boost on your car, if you bring your car to us, we'll tell you all you need to know about how it runs ;)

Jess, email lucas@mrctuning.com and see what he's willing to do for you, I don't deal with prices/marketing as I don't have time for it unfortunately. ;)

Thanks,

Mihnea

Surrey Rolling road is about the most reliable around down here.
IMHO to get the most from your car you need to remove the strangulation that is the OEM exhaust. 2x 400cell cats, really do effect the performance, no matter what anyone says. I have standard de catted dp's, milltek cat back with the main cats removed and the turbo's spool up and breathe so much easier. Whats the point of producing all that extra boost if the turbos take a week to spool up ue to back pressure? My advice would be listen to the likes of MRC or unit 20.......
It's all Bollox.

Mr Cornish,

What do you do about MoT's with the de-catted DP's?

Can I ask why people prefer MRC tuning to QST for the RS6?

I agree, but as can be seen on previous threads there is not a lot of choice on the market and whilst being expensive is way cheaper than MTM!!!!
