TRacker imobilizer, anti theft

Post by ricks » Sat Oct 11, 2008 10:20 am

HI, as you can see from previous thread, my car was knicked a few nights ago.

With car crime on the up, if I get the car back i want to protect it as best I can, so wondered if we could start a thread to share ideas on views, reviews, ideas on products to stop the little S^%ts.

A couple of questions to kick off, does anyone know of devices you can fit that kills the engine if not driven by the owner.

also, any views on tracker devices.

Two years ago to the day since our house was broken into, the keys taken and both of our cars stolen.
This happened a 2.20am while we were in bed, my wife heard them leaving but it was too late to even try and stop them which probably would have been a mistake to attempt anyway. The police spotted the one car with 3 occupants about 15mins later and gave chase but they gave up as they say it was too dangerous to continue !

To say the least we have increased security since then somewhat, couple of things were to install telescopic security posts, and one cheap option which I personally like is security lights which as well as the light coming on they also sound a siren which is connected wireless inside the house. (siren can be annoying if its set off by wildlife, but its more annoying to loose your cars!). These are about £40 from Wickes.

A device which kills the engine can be found on-

As I've said before, a burglar alarm on the house is important. Regardless of cars, the idea that someone could be sneaking around my house whilst I'm asleep and defenceless is horrible enough. I suspect there's a 'level' of burglar that whilst is willing to sneak around a house looking for keys, they're not the sort that would escalate it to physical threats nor want to be seen and a description taken, and therefore they wounldn't risk coming face to face with anyone. They break in, the alarm goes off, they leg it again.

If we are talking home security then a full protection trained dog is hard to beat. OK, this requires a lot of time and effort to be invested (socialisation for the dog etc.) however, imagine 60+kg of pure muscle coming for you in full drive mode - trust me you don't want to be on the end of that. And to counter all those 'an attack trained dog is a liability' its not.......

What is, is a dog with bad breeding a dog with bad nerves. Make the time and effort to find a decent dog invest in the training and you have a loyal companion who will guard you and your family with his life.

Move area !

I live in Devon. Lights are a huge deterent to thiefs. They are looking for an easy job. If you have an alarm box on your house and security lights they wil go next door. It's unlikely that they were just shopping for an RS.

I do have dogs also but think that the wife is more of a deterent !
RS6 C5 05 plate very tidy.
Past.... Only have 500 characters ! RR Sport X 2 Nice but boring RS6 C5 03 Sold due to losing 25K of value in 12 months of ownership !
Still have a 72 GT6 and a few Big Bikes....

Mr Cobalt!! Speaking so highly of your wife!!! :-)

Would a dog, that is like a family member, not be executed if they attack the thief/attacker?

The reason our burglar alarm was not on at the time was because our dogs were downstairs, they are by no means guard dogs, or particularly scary looking but they are medium size and generally bark if there is a noise.
This was no deterent however, the scumbags fed them Mars Bars ! to keep them quite ! Which worked a treat !

I was just grateful they didnt stab them or something equally horrible, like poison or even take them aswell !

I would expect a trained guard dog would be a different situation and we did consider getting another dog, but having two dogs already is enough for us!

I would have just loved for the scumbags to have been ripped to shreds by a brute of a dog when they took a step into our house.

Coming back to the subject in hand - can't recommend any further than a anti-carjack device. Blackjaxx or Autowatch comes to mind. I have the latter installed after discovering Blackjaxx's update versions. Had the car MOT'd the other day and the chap had to call me in as the car inadvertantly shut down on him (he forgot to how to disable the system).

In a nutshell, these barstewards would not get further than a mile before the car grinds to a halt after the system cuts the fuel off. These scumbags don't need the hassle and will walk away from the car (unless it's on a flat bed or it's Nicholas Cage).
RS6 (MRC'd with econodrive) is not just for Xmas
Toyota Aygo Platinum for minimising carbon footprint.

May I introduce to you my security dog; look how he guards the car menacingly.

"Don't come near or your ankles will be bitten!"

We bought a bitch a couple of months ago too, so we now have two of the rascals!!! This is the girl:

But on a serious note, we have:

Lockable gates
A house alarm
Two dogs that have excellent hearing and often wake us up barking if people walk past
Over twenty years combined martial arts experience and a house full of weapons
A Tracker and Alarm fitted

All that said, if the scrotes wanted the car bad enough and are prepared to take drastic measures, I'd rather them have the motor and not have to fear of any repercussions. I could easily fight off intruders in my house but I wouldn't want to live in fear that a petrol bomb would come through my window a week later. I value my cars, but I value my life and my girlfriend's more!

I like the idea of these, but if this was to happen, surely this would frustrate them, possibly to the end of them just doing as much damage to the car as possible before making their sharp exit?

Probably more likely with the devices that lock the scumbags in the car until the police arrive...

You then get your car back - great, but in what state??

Yeah, that would be cool. Then we could sell the scrotes into slavery to pay for the repairs.
