obviously a fault, possibly the controller.... you will need to find someone with vag-com to find out what the real probelm is. alternatively your local audi dealer

Hello Nikt!

I've had the same problem occur in the past. The reply from skiwi is ultimately what I had to do.

If you take it to a dealer with said VAGCOM diagnosis equipment, they'll quickly be able to plug in their display module, scan through the sensors and actually be able to tell you which sensor is at fault.

An Audi dealer will probably tell you that this is not an uncommon fault, as I have it good authority from my main dealer that they've done many. In fact, my car's service history shows that she's had a full set in her first 2 years from new!
The route cause will be a signal / power supply fault to one or more of the sensors, on either the front or rear bumper arrays. Internal corrosion could be one problem, a disconnected plug, or broken wire could be another. They tend to work right up until the point they get disturbed. To that end, if you've had work at either end done, maybe the facts will reveal themselves accordingly.

Finding the fault via a dealer will be literally be as quick as plugging their unit into your car and booting the system up - minutes! As such the cost should be painless enough, even from a main dealer - I'd guess £25.

Repairing the offender in principle is easy, as they are plug n play devices, however, if the fault is on the front, be aware that they may well have to take the front bumper off (not sure about the rear ones - yet) and so the labour rates and times will come into play. New sensors are not colour matched to the car, so you'll need to consider getting a replacement coated - assuming the original on your car needs replacing and isn't a quick wiring fault.

I think I've waffled enough, but my advice is go to a proper (preferably Audi) dealer, as it'll take the guess work out of it all for you.

Finally whilst I think of it, mine occasionally develops a temporary problem with the parking sensors, if I move the gear shift slowly into reverse. It's as though they receive an intermittent pulse during shift travel and don't correct themselves accordingly.

I hope you've found this input useful.

Regards,
Chris
