Insurance (again...)

my insurance is up end April and I've just had a frustrating afternoon surfing for quotes and whilst I think I've got a good deal it took far longer than I expected.

All the family cars (x3) are insured through moreth>n and when I bought the RS6 in Feb they quoted me £421 (i still have the quote stored). When my renewal came through it was for £636! I called them to see if they would match the earlier quote and after going back through the details they came back with £710 - admitedly I upped the annual mileage from 10k pa to 15k pa. They wouldn't budge.

So that started me on my search this afternoon. I've always used confused.com and comparethemarket.com which gave quotes from £405 (moreth<n!) to over a £1,000 (I'm 51, full NCD, no points, sole driver, etc).

However the frustrations came when I moved from the comparator sites to the insurers sites. As I checked the details passed over and re-quoted in every case but one the price changed (upwards!).

I've got it down to £519 now but it's really hard to compare policy features.

What's everyone elses key, must have features? Low excess? Courtesy car (any old)? Courtesy car (comparable)? Reputable customer service? Good claims history?

Or do RS6 owners just take the lowest price and be thankful!?

I'm now with Adrian Flux (34, with Mrs, full NCB, no claims, all mods declared, 10k PA, courtessy car, 3rd party other cars etc) for £750, £400xs. I was with Tescos when the car was stock. Generally having the Mrs on the policy helps.

Noel Dazely were good too this year.

I renewed in Feb currently with swiftcover who will not insure modified cars but they would handle my unmodified RS6.

£420.53 full protected ncb, 45 yo, tracker, not garaged £600.00 excess, 9000 pa, loan car, living in Devon.

I'm a newby having only picked up my RS6 this morning... I'm still grinning like a freak!!

I managed to get crazy cheap insurance from Bell: 32 yrs old, 25yr old mrs included, 18k miles a year, fully comp, class 1 business for both of us, full protected ncb, tracker, £250 voluntary excess... £488 for the year!!!!

I've lost count of the number of different quotes I've now had over the past few days but i had to smile when one of the cheaper quotes came from ibuyeco.com accompanied by an offer to carbon offset my CO2 emmissions for free in the first year! They estimate my annual CO2 emissions at 8.1 tonnes per annum!

Cheapest so far is through Adrian Flux at £421 pa - don't know yet who that will be with but it's interesting that all the cheapest quotes so far end up with Allianz.

I have 3 points and only 3 years' NCB because I had a rather expensive crash in my Audi S3 back in 2005.

One way to get BIG reduction on RS 6 insurance is to sit your Advanced Driving Test with the I A M [Institute of Advanced Motorists]. Ins companies like this and 15 - 20% off the normal rate is common

i finally got fed up phoning around and filling in forms online today and renewed with R&SA through Adrian Flux for £424pa which was only a few pounds off my cheapest quote. All the options seem ok, the only one I'd have liked to better was the £600 accidental damage excess.

On the quote form I just ticked the box that said "Factory Fitted" when asked about "Security Fitted?" (I also advised them I had a 'live' Tracker subscription).

I notice the original brochure claims the RS6 was fitted with an "Anti-theft device with interior ultrasonic protection (Thatcham 1 approved)". It says nothing about 'immobiliser'.

Can I sign this declaration guys??

Yep. Thatcham Cat 1 are alarms AND immobilisers. Audi A6s have had them since July 01.

bummer - good job you said that, just re-read the docs and despite me telling them I had a tracker fitted it hasn't been included. Might get this cheaper yet!

It usually makes no difference to the premium (unfortunately), most insurance companies require proof of a tracker fitted just to insure high performance cars like the '6. If you don't have the install certificate you can just fill in the Tracker declaration form if they sent you one.

you were right Grant - no difference. Still, just glad to be sorted at £424. Noticed that the name of the R&SA product is High Net Worth Policy!

Have to say I was impressed with Adrian Flux's service once you get through on the phone - always seem to very busy. Everything was done by email - including the Insurance Certificate.
