Need 4 new tyres ahead of MOT , your input is appreciated

MOT runs out late April, treads is down to 2/3mm in places, dont want the argo of an MOT failure so i have decided to get 4 new tyres.

Currently i have Conti Sportcontact 2 XL 255/35/ 19s.

To replace i have been quoted £824 (etyres)

or i am considering Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta (best quote i got was £720)

both quotes inc fitting etc.

Thought about Pirelli - but i have them on the porsche and i consider them too soft for the RS6 and Michelin PS probably too expensive - neverless a very good tyre.

I mainly do long haul in the RS so wear rate is important but of course i dont want to compromise on safety.

What do you think?

Just a quick one on the Ultrac's (I looked into them and they are very well rated).

Camskill tyres they sell them online with free delivery:

Worked out that four would cost you £628 and if you can get the tyres fitted at a tenner a corner, you've just saved £50 to spend on some "go" juice.

No problem mate

Didn't go for them myself but I have read reviews that say they are excellent.

I rang a couple of places who only sold big name tyres who obviously scare-mongered and said "yeah, if you want a blowout once your car tops 100," before trying to fleece me out of a grand.

I think the tread pattern looks good and the magazines (think it was Autocar) rated them very well.

Hope this helps (oh p.s. can I borrow your Carrera?!) :P

Sadly I cant let you borrow the Carrera S, it is a bit special and my pride and joy, the wife has the RS6 but she never drives it nor does she pay the bills. Sometimes i catch myself staring at it, it is just so good looking despite being 10yrs old. I am always flattered when people leave notes on the windscreen asking to buy it....The answer is of course - no way...

I looked at getting a Carrera before getting the RS6 but the insurance wouldn't insure me as an under 25; silly I suppose because the RS6 is still a beast.

I suppose I will have to wait eh?!

My 6 came with PS2s which give great feedback, but I have gone to Toyo as it is my tyre fitters brand. If the RS6 Toyos last anything like the ones I just changed on the RS4 today, I'll be happy..... 21,500 miles (And a few trackdays)

Phil, i want a full report as i'm replacing mine after my May Eurohoon & i'm sick of paying £1000 a set so i'm interested in equally good quality but cheaper rubber, not the Mich/Pir rip-off mainstream.

£824 was a good price - I just had Conti Sport Contact 3s fitted by etyres and they were £209 each. Black Circles were quoting £198 but I paid the xtra to have eytres fit them at work without having to take time off...

PS2's for me were long lasting, 24k miles.

Toyo's have softer side walls, more pliable so good ride and progressive handling when pressing on, good choice.

Sessanta's had a very good write up, beat the PS2's.

I have some good continentals in the garage if you're interested (I'm West London based). I took them off the RS6 when it was quite new to fit Dunlop SuperSports.

have fun.

Thank you rs6red for the offer, unfortunately i had 4 sessantas fitted first thing Sat morning around 8:30. #

First observation is there appears to be a lot less tyre rumble.

Also it was nice to see another RS6 (silver) going for an early morning drive in SW London.
