windows open on there own?

Got woke up very early by my neighbour telling me i should look at my car! ( starting thinking it had been vandalised or something! ) but to my horror all the windows was fully down and it was snowing in my car! Thank god my neighbour goes for a walk at 5 in the morning on a Saturday! (weirdo) Lucky for me! So i got it all cleaned out before it melted and soaked every thing. It also just so happened i had one of my cleaning machines at home to make quick work of it.
Anyway i have read before that peoples windows have opened before and it has been put down to sitting on there remote etc.
So how did mine open when my keys was locked in the safe and have been in there for a whole week?

Funny you should say that mate, mine were all half-open last week and I don't know how. I luckily clocked it just before I went to bed. Perhaps I sat on my keys... Weird one that though, especially if your keys were locked away!

check that you aint got water into the car from blocked drain holes in the plenum chamber..water can fill up the footwells and make the electrics under the seats do strange things..including opening the windows..

I checked that as soon as i read about it on another thread. Carpets and under them bone dry. I was also speaking to a ex audi tech who said this is a software error on all a6 cars. Always gets blammed on someone sitting on the keys tho

The windows will come down if you press and hold the door open button on the remote keyfob. It's called the 'comfort function' I think. Your dealer or anyone with VAGCOM can disable this bl**dy silly feature. It only needs the keys to be inadvertantly pressed in your pocket and the windows will go down.

Ay? did you read the other posts? The keys are in a locked safe and have been for a whole week before it happened

Anyway something a bit more strange is that if i hold the button on to do the windows down it sets of the panic feature on brother in laws citroen! Maybe some citroen cars are using the same radio band to transmit or something. I live a few doors away from a shop and many people park outside my house to go there. I wonder if someone else's alarm fob has sent my windows down?

Weird. Had exactly the same thing happen to me the other morning.
Keys were not near the car. Went outside to discover all windows down
at various degrees. Light rain.

First time it has happened since owning.

my garage on a "secure, encrypted link" occasionally opens of it's own accord i presume due to another punter in the 'hood who has the same security "feature"...

One of the replies above states that:

"Your dealer or anyone with VAGCOM can disable the Comfort Setting"

but my Audi dealer advises that it cannot be done.

Can anyone confirm ?

All cars use the same frequency band for their remote controls 433MHz, This is an open band throughout Europe in which you can pretty much create any short range application wireless house alarms, tv remote control range extenders, etc. Unfortunately the receivers are built to a price and can suffer from interference which can cause them to respond to the wrong i.e. not yours signal.

I saw one remote where the code was set by cutting the copper tracks on the board, knowing how poorly these things are designed problems are not surprising..
