INTERNAL PADDLING POOL !!!!!!!!
INTERNAL PADDLING POOL !!!!!!!!
HELP !! , got in the car ( 03 avant ) this morning , heard a sloshing noise as i reversed , and looked in my passenger side rear footwell to see it awash , when i parked on my sloping drive , there was an inch of water in the footwell which was full width and stretching back to the seat brackets ?
No , windows were'nt open !
Any ideas , is this a known fault ? , have had car nearly a year with nothing like this
Having bailed it out , it is clear that the underlay is saturated , right up to the front of the seat bracket , and the electrics is a little unstable , lots of clicking going on in the doors and no response to key fob
,
once the cause is sorted , how on earth am i ever going to get it dry ??????????
thanks
phil

RE: INTERNAL PADDLING POOL !!!!!!!!
I believe the usual cause of this is the pollen filter drainage channel getting blocked. It would be worth checking at least.
You need to dry it out either by soaking it up LOTS using towels/sponges then heat it up with windows or doors open to allow the water to evaporate and the carpet to dry. There's more than one way to skin a cat, if you know what I mean. IIRC, the transmission control unit is also in this area and this can lead to problems when wet.

RE: INTERNAL PADDLING POOL !!!!!!!!
be very carefull or you mite come out in the morning and find the windows down due to the water causing problems and shorting things out...

Re: RE: INTERNAL PADDLING POOL !!!!!!!!
Would this be in keeping with just the rear footwell being wet , and could it be from the heating duct under the seat ??GardinerG wrote:I believe the usual cause of this is the pollen filter drainage channel getting blocked. It would be worth checking at least.

No, it would just help if I had read you post clearly. Doh! Sorry Phil, I missed the REAR bit. Ignore what I said, chances are it's the door seal on that side, or the window was open slightly. Do you have a sunroof?
Re: RE: Re: RE: INTERNAL PADDLING POOL !!!!!!!!
so , any chance of water coming thro vents under seat , only hoping , as have just had car serviced , and then this happens , would dearly love to pin it on dealer , rather than coincidence !!GardinerG wrote:No, it would just help if I had read you post clearly. No, not unless the front footwell was also flooded. Where is the central locking module located on the S4 B5? Are there any other interior pannels wet (sides)? If you look at the interior door step plate, is it wet when it normally wouldn't be?
Anyway, the last time I had to deal with this issue (rear n/s well flooded in old VW Golf) it turned out to be the door seal on the bottom of the door. Age etc had shrunk the seal to the point there was a gap. Easy enough to fix. I found out by sitting in the back in a car wash, a little extreme perhaps.

i will check the aroma tomorrow , but the flood did seem to coincide with the heavy rain of last night , and volume of water / colour seems to cross out the screenwash option , but will still double check

A more detailed recap of events for your perusal and help , please !
After the recent heavy rain , I have up to an inch of water sloshing around the passenger footwell , primarily to the rear , but in the front as well , though generally under the carpet in the front , the underlay is wet throughout the passenger side
This did coincide with having a service with all filters being renewed , a week after which , the floods arrived
the car is an RS6 Avant 2003 model , which i have owned and adored for a year now , with no previous problems
Urgent action is needed as electrics are now being effected , no central locking or response to key plip , and dash shows two doors open , though they are not , hazard lights come on intermittently as well
Lifting plastic trims around doors , and having hoses pour water all round doors revealed no obvious leaks through the door seals , but shortly after the hoses , which were played on the windscreen as well as the doors , water levels rose in the rear footwell again ???
Any help would be very much appreciated
Thanks
Philip

also ......sorry.....
no loss of pressure in screen washers , and water is clear of green screenwash , so have discounted that option , seems to be from engine compartment area , but i stand to be corrected
thanks

Hi check round the poller filter as mentioned allready I had the same problem in my s6 a few weeks ago it was caused by a small amount of leaf debris between the filter housing and the inner wing. If the water is above the rear carpet then the central conveniance module may be wet its under the carpet in the front passenger side. I had about half an inch of water showing above the rear carpet and removed it with a vax lifting the carpets from the sill side to get the water from under the carpet and took 4 litres of water out, the foam on the under side of the carpets holds lots of water.
