Un feckin real,
out on business yesterday and the temp guage start's going sky high and the warning light come's on.Limp's in to Dundee Audi and ask if they can have a look at it,their info and help was about as much use as a feckin chocolate fire guard. He think's it could be a water pump but canni be sure and say's i'll probably need to book it in(That's handy seeing as i stay about a 100 mile's away and thier not offering me a courtesy car!)So i limp on to Perth Audi and they were excellent but it look's like it need's a thermostat so that will be expensive!Only had the car a month and no it doesni have a warranty but them's the break's i suppose. The service guy asked me when the cambelt's were done which was only 10000miles ago but he reckons they havni changed it when they were doing the cambelt's!DAMN IT!

Fraser

They wouldn't normally change it when doing a cambelt.

The part itself will be quite cheap, but labour will be a killer. :(

a sticking thermostat is something that must be fixed, you don't want to stress the v8 with high temps for too long. access to the thermostat requires removal of the cambelt, hence the desire to do both at the same time. i suspect that, under warranty, audi garages don't particularly care to be efficient, as they can bill the hours for each operation. it doesn't encourage them tobe pro-active, as we punters who have to pay, try to be.

I had thermostat fail on mine last year also, but covered under warranty.

Hi - my thermostat went a couple of weeks ago, and also faced the prospect of £1000 of labor, luckily the Warranty company covered it. However what i did find out is that Audi UK offered as a good will gesture to half the labor cost as it is a regularly failing item, and labor necessary to replace it is excessive - obviously i didn't benefit from it but the Warranty company only had to pay £500 labor - maybe it's worth you giving it a go - maybe get them to speak to Wakefield Audi where i had mine done.
