Should Tyre Sensors be a Warranty Item

I have just been told that my RS6 needs 4 new tyre pressure sensors by my dealer. They have not yet convinced me of the following:
1) Do I really need all four
2) Is it a sensor failure or battery failure
I have an audi extended warranty and am intersetd to know whether anyone has had sensors replaced under this warranty or whether as the dealer is suggesting I cough for the lot. Look forward to anyones input
Jonathan

As they are sealed units you can't replace the battery (as you probably already know), so it's a moot point. (unfortunately). There is a diagnostic procedure they are supposed to do to check each sensor. Unless none of the wheels have sensors in them? (e.g. aftermarket wheels)

Good plan Si, I was wondering what the probability of them all going faulty at once is?

mine were replaced under warranty - but the dealer only did one. i should have asked them to replace all 4 because a battery failure in 1 would indicate that the others don't have long to go...

My dealer has also told me that all 4 sensors need replacing due to faulty batteries. However, he also said that these are unlikely to be covered under my extended Audi used car warranty (if I had an original Audi car manufacturers warranty then yes!) .... can anyone else confirm here if they have had tyre sensors replaced under extended used car warranty (Mondial) ?? Thanks.

Looking through my cover, it does specifically state that "batteries" are not covered. However .... the tyre pressure sensors are sealed units and batteries are not replacable .... but if they are not replacable items then surely the unit is faulty as a whole and should be covered by used car warranty ?

Not covered with Warranty Direct as they are batteries and last for 4 - 6 years allegedly.
I bought one last month from a guy who is linked into a thread on here somewhere.
Vag com tells you which tyre sensor it is. Mine said rear right so I replaced the drivers side rear and it has made the warnings go away !!
Where are you ?
I have the £12 lead of ebay and it allows my laptop to look at codes so if you can do the same it will save you being ripped off.

Hmm.. my Audi extended warranty was sold to me as if it covers everything that the original did. As it happens mine are faulty too and it goes in on Thursday to have that, and some other things (DRC!), looked at, so I'll report back after then.

Any tyre company can replace the sensors.
Look up "tyre" in this forum and find the alloy wheel bloke. Sensors were £80 and fitting should only be the same as a tyre fitting.

mine are covered under warranty - however only replaced 1 sensor at a time. i'm now due for my second. this issue should not be a surprise to anyone, batteries only last so long, and our cars are now over 4 years old....

They are covered under any Audi warranty.
However, they will ONLY change the faulty one.

Audi warranty will cover faulty sensor / s as long as they have not been damaged by monkey tyre fitters. Sounds like your dealer doesn't know
which one ,so they picked all four....... chi ching ...

I have my car in today with Audi Docklands, will find out if my lifetime warranty with Motorcare covers it, cant comment on audi's own policy though. Sorry
