Post by philroach » Fri Oct 12, 2007 6:26 pm

has anyone tried to get a decent connecting system between their i-pod and their RNS Plus
have seen a £99.99 harness from Audi , but it doesnt give any info out on the screen and even the audi techs didnt think much of it
cheers

i believe that the issue is that the ipod doesn't give out the id tags through the interface. the audi interface works well - i use the "dice" holder and have it mounted down by the handbrake. however, scrolliing through titles is a big plus of using the sd cards....

dice holder ? i dont have the rns-e , so have no card reader
someone mentioned a harman kardon system which involves a seperate screen , lots of control etc , but more visible for the smash and grab merchants
also a phat noise which replaces the multi cd player , and gives all info on screen
Has anyone done anything like this ???
am just getting tired of going to the boot just to change a cd , not very hi tech !!!!!

Phatnoise gives no infor on screen - it's done by synthesised voice and IMO it's junk.

I had the Harman Kardon in my 5 series for a bit. Works really well but I hate add-on tat in the car. I use a Rapsody now but I need to get video in motion sorted out as the RNS sees it as a TV so blanks it when moving.

Re Phatnoise. I have a 20Gb Phatnoise with a ground loop isolator and the 4 spoke RS wheel with audio controls. I set the unit to Random and just skip the occasional track I don't like. For me it works, but it's not the MP3 holy grail for Audis, it's more like a workaround. ;-)

If I had a few spare thousands I would look at an aftermarket double DIN headunit like Pioneer AVIC-D3BTi (DVD - £840) or AVIC-HD3BT (HDD - £1,550), for full Postcode Sat Nav and proper MP3 handling. Just my 2p. :-)

I too have the RAPSODY got around 500 Albums at the moment and 325 Films with permanent in motion screen for TV and the Rapsody. Just about to have monitors installed into headrests too

With reference to the ipod why not buy the transmitter to run it wirelessly throughan empty FM channel on the radio

Because that is usually a really bad solution is my guess. I bought one as an interim and tried to use it last weekend - worthless.

"dice" is a company which offers in-car ipod solutions. the connection doesn't need an rns-e but that, imo, is still the best in-car solution. as well as better sound than the symphony, it gives you a good bluetooth solution and nav. tv also if you get bored easily...

Raposdy (note; no "h") comes up in Google. The IMA from Kufatec now controls the RSH300 (according to my instructions anyway) whereas it didn't previously. I bought an RSH110 because of that but they are harder to find now as they have been discontinued I believe. Kufatec will sell you a Rapsody along with the interface kit as a kit if you want them to.

Note it's cheaper to buy a bare Rapsody and fit any 3.5" PATA hard disk than to buy one preconfigured. I think 500Gb is as big as you can go. Mine was £79 as I recall and then around £59 for the disk.

Does the Dice use the RNS controls and provide info on-screen? After filling my 60Gb one I've finally found someone with a 160Gb iPod in stock so I'm collecting it this evening and good as the Rapsody is I'd rather use the iPod for music.

I don't suppose you can take a snap of the display on the RNS-E can you, Dave? They don't seem to have it on their website.

Hi Chaps,

I use the dension ice link with my ipod (do a google and ebay search) with my RNS-D and it works really well - however no display - it just acts as a 'sudo' CD player so you basically get 5 playlists and one menu to access the dension software on the ipod.

Its really easy to fit - just slide out your RNS unit and unplug the CD and plug in the ice link (you cant use the CD aswell though but why would you want to)!

I had to make a small hole in the side of the glove box as I wanted to hide the ipod in there.

The only downer is the lack of screen so for example if you have 10 albums in a playlist you then will have 100+ tracks on CD1.

What I do is have 5 playlists Rock, Dance etc and then just upload a few albums per playlist per week when I am travelling, to save scrolling through hundreds of tracks!!

Takes a bit of getting used to, but the quality is just as good as CD if not better!!!???

Cheers Lig.

I had a Dension in my 5 series for about 10 days. Despite the car being a diesel it made a noise like ignition interference (as does my Phatnoise which was installed for a similar amount of time in my Six). I also couldn't get on with the interface/playlist stuff and it was sooooooo sloooooooow searching through tracks/albums/artists.

I guess it depends what you want but I really didn't rate it.
