WARNING - RS6's going missing in the Surrey Area

Post by natedog » Mon Sep 10, 2007 10:35 am

All,

Dont know if this is old news or not, but I had a card through this morning from the local police informing me that a gang are going around stealing RS6's. We went to the local cop shop to confirm that the card and copppers number was not fake, they confirmed it was all ok. So waiting for a call back now from the officer in question. Once I find more out I will let you all know.. so if you are in the Woking / Surrey area keep an eye out

I'm not in the area but are they bypassing the security or going after the keys?

I am awaiting a call from the nice policeman that put the card through my door asking for me to call him, so when I find out more I will let you all know.

Not good to hear, but as a car for a "job" the RS6 (Avant especially) has to be close to unbeatable - loads of go, loads of load capacity, relatively discreet.

Let's hope no more go missing though.

ok people, an update for you all Just had a chat with the policeman, very nice and helpful and also updated me on what has been going on, it seems that a group are targeting RS's all along the M25 area from Woking to Egham,

2 RS6's were take about a week ago, and they tried to take an RS4 last night. I have been lucky that the police have been keeping an eye on my car (this is a good thing I hope).. From what I got told the group does not care about making to much noise or how they get the keys.

Been advised to block the car in at night so to make it harder for them to take if they do try and trying to get 2 sets of keys is harder than one, so my advice to people is do not leave you keys in plane view from any windows.

I can sleep good tonight know that my car is not outside the house it is locked away somewhere.

Im just so pissed off that we have to take these kinda of measures, just cause we have nice cars.

Sad news but here in Australia mainly Sydney there has been a large number of car jackings in the last year mainly targeting european cars.

The main method is to jump out on you at a set of traffic lights or even run up your backside making you think it is an accident then wrestling you for the keys some have even gone as far as house invasion at gun point.

I have learned to watch my mirror's after year's of owning performance cars and always pay close attention for "tail" cars ie cars that are following while trying to stay under radar on two occasions I have picked up such cars.

One time they attemepted to jump out on me at a set of lights but they got the shock of their lives when the "car jacker" was confronted with all four doors on my car opening as me and my mates where heading to the footy game.

Sad news but these are the times we live in.

What about car jackings? I read that an RS4 B7 was car jacked recently. What can we (legally) do against such attacks in the UK? It's not like we can drive through red lights without getting fined and points - potentially getting banned just trying to avoid some nutters.

I suppose make as much noise as possible! Any other thoughts? Would be great to get some police info on how to handle such situations. Hmmm, I wonder about fitting blue flashy lights or a remote kill switch? 8)

Grant,

besides what you already mentioned about making some noise, how about a baseball bat :)

or http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/produc ... /5087.html

I'm not sure what the latest "Blackjax anti hijack & anti key crime feature" consist of, but at £549 it would need to have everything covered!

Might give them a call to see what is covered, as I need to get my "AutoWatch" system removed as it's driving me nuts with false alarms at the moment.

If you fit a system that immobilise's the system i strongly suggest that it be based on distance ie shut down after 2kms you dont want to be there when it shuts down especially if they are armed

Just what I was thinking!

I guess that if they REALLY want to steal your car they will succeed. All we can hope for is "to be able to walk away from it" as they say.

Hmmm, how's about a kill switch with a can of sleeping gas both connected to a remote trigger?

RS6s are apparently a favourite with armed robbers (fast getaway car with loads of space and relatively discreet). This did concern me with my wife and kids using the car .... so had the car fitted with Armourguard window protection to prevent car jackers and would be opportunist thieves from smashing the window and getting access to the car.

The prescence of a tracker to lead the police directly to the vehicle is not a detterent then?

I understood all uk rs6's had trackers fitted.

Thanks for bringing this to everyone's attention; I've found this an interesting read (if a little un-nerving).

On the topic of car jackers, my car doesn't automatically lock after you start rolling and I have to keep reminding myself to press the lock button upon getting in. Is this only activated via VAGCOM or is there another way to do it?

Thanks in advance.
