Hi all - newbie here.
I've already posted on the S6 forum, please excuse my intruding here.

I was looking for an RS6 and have lurked on here for a while.
The DRC issues settled it for me !

Please could I ask advice on the S6.
I've looked at a 2000 W reg S6 today.
Ride quality was pretty good - more or less same as my A6 2.8 !
Does the DRC issue extend to the S6 range ?
Reading on TSN (where I've also posted), this may not be an issue.
I welcome confirmation.
Also any other problematic issues to look out for ?

I wouldn't necessarily let DRC put you off - I didn't anyway. It's £1,500 to make it go away for ever and with respect if that sounds like too much money you probably couldn't afford to run an RS6, otherwise just go for it!

It's not just about the cash to fix it !
I was put off by some guys having to get it "fixed" every 2-3 months - I just think that this'll be too much hassle in the long run.
Also, Audi's attitude on this problem (as reported so far) didn't help.

i think the guys that are having to get there DRC fixed every 2-3 months aint getting the correct service there car deserves..once its sorted its forgotten about..
or you could always fit coilovers so no DRC prob's at all..

it's not audi best as i can tell - it is the dealer in most cases. if the dealer doesn't diagnose it correctly (and certainly my dealer is very familar with the issue and the procedures) then they get a vested interest in hoping you go away. human nature 101.

sorry but the c5 s6 doesn't compare to the rs. i hated the s6 - stodgy and slow witted - my d2 s8 was a much better car. might just be me though....

The RS6 has many differences, not the least of which is the DRC. The brakes are FAR better on the RS, as is the handling, as is the power...etc. "blown" engine every time for me, as I find the naturally aspirated engines not as responsive. Then there's the way it looks, sills, exhaust, wheels, grills. I suppose it really depends what you are looking for, and as skiwi says you can't really compare them. As for the DRC it doesn't bother me, I drive an RS6 and I love it.

The RS6, apart from the obvious massive hike in performance, rode the bumps better, handled better, stopped quicker, was more comfortable, had far more goodies and turned out to be more reliable. The only fault in two and a half years was a new battery under warranty, although suffered from sticking windows in both cars.

My situation is that I just want to upgrade from my current 2.8 R reg A6.
Initially test drove the S4 Cab, but have yet to find one with the right spec/price.
Next, thought I'd move up to the 6 series and thought briefly of the RS6, but the hassle with the DRC (that others have reported on here) really put me off.
Most cars on offer are the 03 plate/25k price, and just out of warranty, unless bought from a dealer.

Therefore looked briefly for the S6 range and test frove one yesterday.
Although on a 2000 plate, it had low (46k) miles and appeared well looked after with FASH etc
Ride quality was good and had much more oomph than my current car !
In truth however, the S4 Cabs that I test drove recently were zippier and sounded richer !

So, in theory could buy the S6 for around 10k have it a couple of years etc and then make the move up to an RS (4 or 6).
Was essentially asking here if there were any known inherent problems/drawbacks on the S6.
Keep them opinions coming.

My suggestion was to bin the DRC. I certainly have no intention of trying to fix mine either by spending money on it or buying a warranty to let Audi try to fix it.

I also considered an S4 cab, but steering feel slightly less convincing than a games console (without force feedback) was my overwhelming memory of driving one. I did like the fridge behind the glove box though.
