Has anyone changed these on the RS6?

My outside front cv boot is split and I have purchased a replacement. I had a quick look today and not sure of the right way to get at the drive shaft and if I need any special ball joint separator tools?

generally whould have to be replaced. a ripped boot is pretty common and replacing the boot and repacking with grease is all that is required. generally the cv shouldn't be replaced unless it is noisy,,,

marmite, you are clearly a very attentive person if a little irony challenged - either that you are one of life's natural policemen....

but you did make me re-read the original request.....

tips:

1) you can get away with re-using the (old) axle bolt to remove the cv from the axle, it will tighten down and pull the joint off, but if no luck with that method, a 2-arm puller will do in place of the special tool...

2) don't displace the balls, and make sure to clean all the old grease out. use a citrus solvent and rinse with water and thoroughly dry.

3) don't be afraid to us a bfh to get it all back on the shaft - albeit with a wooden buffer....

4) instead of the proper circlip pliers you can use a pair of straight cutters.

5) don't circlip the small end until you have re-assembled to allow time to get the air out of the boot...
