SAT NAV help!!

Hi all,

I have started getting an error on the old sat nav (RNS-D)....it states that the 'disc is incompatible - Insert a DX compatible disc'

A real pain in the behind!! I bought an updated OEM disc a couple of months ago which seemed to work fine until now, but I am thinking it may be the unit that is at fault??

It only seems to happen when the unit is warm and then if I let it cool down (overnight) it will then work fine.

It makes me feel uneasy as I may have to look at a map!!!!!! thats not right - forgotten how to use one of those things!!

Its difficult to take it in to the dealer as its very intermittent and as I said only happens when warm (travelling 50 odd miles plus). I can see Audi will have it for a day and say 'we couldnt get it to happen'!!

It doesnt just stop working its only when the ig has been switched off and back on again (like a fuel stop).

Any advice gratefully recieved (and don't say upgrade to the RNS-E)!!

Cheers,
Lig.

Have you tried taking the disc out and cleaning it ??? as it sounds like a problem with the laser over heating and not reading the disc to me

clean the disc & get audi to re-calibrate the unit.

then get an rns-e.

Mine has been dead for over a fornight, it had me in the North Sea at the weekend.

The units do have a fan, perhaps that has broken?

I had a weird issue with my BMW one. It would work for an hour or so then reboot and hang. It turned out to be the "backup" disc I was using failing and a genuine BMW one fixed it. Not relevant if your disc is genuine and undamaged I guess...

You may find that the updated OEM disc supports an updated firmware that needs to be uploaded to your RNS-D. I have had issues with this in the past with other cars. Contact the Disc supplier and give them info regarding your old CD version number, There is a menu on the RNS-D that gives you the firmware version your unit is running, tell them this info as well. They should be able to tell you if there are any compatibility issues regarding your new CD. If not then you'll have to upgrade to an RNS-oops!

Cheers for all the input chaps,

I have tried cleaning the disc but didnt help. I will listen out for the fan as I do recall hearing it after a long journey when the ig was switched off and I havent heard it recently?? I will get in touch with the supplier (or may just carry my old disc to switch when I get stuck- and see if it works).

IF its the laser hopefully it will pack in alltogether and then I will make a warranty claim.

Cheers again,
Lig.
