Hi chaps,

Sorry but please expect a flood of 'dumb' questions until I find my feet!!!

I know this must have been asked before (searched the archives but no difinitive answer found) and I will be happy with blunt single value answers, but, whats the longest I can expect from the following with general mainly motorway driving:

Tyres
Brake discs and pads

Do the brakes wear out quicker because when you stop at lights etc you are holding the car on the brakes, should it be the done thing to put it into 'Park' every time???

probably 25-30K miles ...depends on how hard you are on them

...holding them on dosent wear them quicker....but you need to be careful not to cook them i.e. dont say brake down from 80-90mph really hard and then sit with them on - put car into P etc when at lights, if its for any duration of time and youve been pressing on a bit

you have made my day - this is kind of what i thought but grizz on my first post said 5-7k if you drive hard and i was thinking this really cant be right??!! To be honest I am really light on breaks, I had a 2.7 A6 and the brakes lasted the full 38k miles I had her, and still looked fine?!

Tell me do you know the difference in drilled and standard? Apart from looks? Do you also know how much difference they are in price?
I thought that the drilled will wear the pads and probably the discs out quicker?

This how often rajp changes his discs , remember this is a totally different car to a 2.7 a6.

thats what i did, i had a A6 2.T for nearly 3 years then decided to px it for a RS6, and what a good choice, you will have alot of fun in it, and your face will be a permanent smile

My last set of front brakes lasted about 20K, that was with a blend of motorway and "spirited" driving, I highly reccomend that you give Doug a call at MRC, he will give you some very helpfull guidance on RS6 brakes and a very very good price on new discs and pads for genuine audi parts fitted. I went for the RS6+ all round this time, whereas previously I had stuck with the vented non-cross-drilled. Rear discs and brakes are good for at least 40k in my experience.

Tyres also around 20K, rears have worn ahead of the fronts with this set.

If you have a look at the Tuning and mods section there is info on the variety of specialist garages available that have good Audi RS knowledge and expertise; by going to one of these independants doesnt mean that you have to get performance upgrades, they also offer very good service on "standard" stuff like general maintenance, massive savings on Audi Dealership prices for what I would consider to be better individual service (and unfortunately for the dealerships, in many instances they have better knowledge of the RS cars)
